The Kalian-Estonian SR Conflict, also referred to as the Estonian Cold War, was a series of conflicts and escalating tensions that took place between the micronations of the Estonian Republic of Kali and the Estonian Socialist Republic from 5 November 2022 to 21 November 2022.

Background

The conflict originated when Kert Tamme, the former foreign minister of the Estonian Republic of Kali, initiated non-official talks with the Estonian Socialist Republic on 5 November 2022. However, due to a misunderstanding and lack of clear instructions, the conversation unexpectedly shifted towards the topic of war, leading to a nine-hour conflict between the two nations. Despite initial efforts to resolve the conflict, tensions persisted, and the conflict entered subsequent phases.

Phases of the conflict

First Phase: Nine-Hour Conflict

The first phase, known as the Nine-Hour Conflict, began on 5 November at 12:19 when Kert Tamme inadvertently led the conversation towards the topic of war. This resulted in a prolonged conflict between Kalia and the Estonian Socialist Republic. The Estonian Socialist Republic initiated mobilization efforts while the conflict unfolded. Fortunately, State Elder Koit Tamme of Kalia proposed a peace treaty in which both nations would express apologies for the misunderstandings that had caused the conflict. The Estonian Socialist Republic accepted the proposal, and the conflict came to an end at 9:33, averting a full-scale war.

Second Phase

However, peace did not endure, as tensions resurfaced shortly after. On 6 November, the first secretary of the Estonian Socialist Republic, Jaanus Noormägi, announced a renewed mobilization against Kalia, directly conveying this message to Kalia's State Elder. Despite a previously signed peace treaty, the Estonian Socialist Republic refused to take responsibility for reigniting the conflict and declined to agree to peace. Kalia considered this a significant insult to their nation and their previous peace efforts. Efforts to peacefully resolve the conflict, including emergency meetings, were met with resistance from the Estonian Socialist Republic, further exacerbating the situation. Eventually, a peace offer from Kalia was accepted, bringing an end to the second phase of the conflict.

Third Phase

However, tensions escalated once again. The Estonian Socialist Republic engaged in provocations against Kalia, leading to the invocation of Article 2 of the Kõivu-Travaktoonia peace treaty by Kalia on 19 November. The conflict reached its peak, with Kalia contemplating the declaration of war. An emergency meeting involving representatives from the Estonian Socialist Republic and the Great Kingdom of Slitronia took place in an attempt to find a resolution. Despite reaching a peace agreement, the Estonian Socialist Republic reneged on their commitment, refusing to sign the treaty. As a result, Kalia made modifications to the treaty, relinquishing their own gains. An armistice was signed on 21 November, effectively concluding the Kalian-Estonian SR Conflict.
