The next general election in Altavia is scheduled on 20 June 2020. The election may be held at an earlier date in the event of an snap election being passed by a super-majority of two-thirds in the Grand Council, a vote of no confidence in the government which is not followed by a vote of confidence within 14 days, or should the reigning Chancellor feel an election is required.
An emergency election was called for by the Chancellor for 20 May 2020, with the explanation being that Altavia needs to have a representative legislature sooner.
Electoral system
The prime minister is elected directly by the citizens where they fill ballots saying which prime minister they wish to elect, then the votes are tallied per province, with the competitor voted by majority gaining the seat in parliament. The competitor with the most seats becomes prime minister.
Date of election
The election should take place on 20 June 2020 as per Article V in the Constitution, but was changed to 20 May 2020.
