—Jacob Tierney

Jacob Tierney OBS, KCA, KPP (London, 31st July 1993 - ) is a politician and scientist, well known in the community for his work and knowledge in the scientific fields. He is also well know as an advocate of the use of psychedelic drugs for spiritual and emotional growth, as a Kenotic. He is currently the Meritarch of Renasia, and Head Researcher at RenTech. He is also the former President of RenTech, being succeeded by Luke Hackel soon after the companies founding. He began his career by founding Scientopia with Stephen Proud, and has remained in charge in some form of all continuing iterations of the nation even since. He was thus the Tsar Royalé of New Scientopia, The Speaker of the Renaissance Republic of Renasia, The Imperator of Technocratic Renasia and Chairman of The Free State of Renasia before its recent reform to create a ruling council. On the 27th of October, 2013, Tierney retiered from micronationalism.

Micronational Career

Tierney began his career by founding Scientopia with friend Stephen Proud in 2008, with a number of their mutual friends joining to become citizens and ministers. Tierney adopted the title Tsar Royalé at this time, with Proud donning the title Supreme Overlord. The nation soon drafted a loose Constitution, with a system of "Weighted Democracy" being the chosen political structure. This system, Tierney's design, split the nation into voting tiers, each assigned a given percentage of the vote. Thus, the two top tiers consisted of the Diarchs; Tierney and Proud; and the Ministers. These two tiers were assigned 40% of the vote each, with 20% left for the third tier, the general population of the nation.
In this way, an oligarchic system of self perpetuation was set up which, while corrupt, was ultimately stable. The nation proceed to remain stable with Tierney and Proud at the helm. This is considered to be the beginning of the first 'Golden Age in the Scientopian Legacy' The nation created a few active agencies, and in this time Tierney founded the Grand Unified Micronational. Internally, Tierney came to feel he was doing a vast majority of the work, and so set about convincing the ministers to motion with him a vote of no confidence. This motion succeeded, however many in the general population were pro-Proud. In reaction to his ousting, he and they left. This ended the first Golden Age in the Scientopian Legacy. Tierney, then left as the sole leader of a nation severely depleted of citizens, renamed Scientopia to New Scientopia.
Ultimately, despite much hard work, there was a great dwindle in internal activity. Ultimately, it became obvious to the remaining citizens that the flawed system they had inherited from Scientopia now no longer worked properly. They decided to thus overthrow the Constitution, restyle the nation and create the Renaissance Republic of Renasia. Despite this reworking, citizen participation was still fairly minimal. In this lull, Tierney became GUM Chairman. However, it was also in this time frame he ultimately required a break from micronational life, and thus did so in approximately the first four months of 2010. This unfortunately lead to his entire Chairmanship being lead by his Vice-Chairman, Alexander Reinhardt.
Upon his return, Tierney saw that there was little citizen participation, and that the great percentage of the nation had drifted away from being Renasians in any real capacity. It was thus that Renasia entered a de facto period in which it was part of Egtavia. In this time, Tierney and Hackel became respected Egtavian citizens, helping to aid greatly Egtavian projects and influence. This is considered the second Golden Age in the Scientopian Legacy.
Ultimately, this time came to an end in the Yablokogate scandal, with a conflict in interests between Pierre d'Egtavie and the Renasians over the leaking of the pertinent dossier to the accused. This ultimately ended with the termination of the Treaty, only established weeks earlier, binding the two nations in a more formal manner.
Tierney then proceeded to form Technocratic Renasia, styling himself Imperator until such a time that a functioning system other than autocracy could be established. This necessary pick up in citizens would signal the time to reform the nation had come. In the intervening period, a new constitution was drawn up by Tierney. In this period, Renasian Technical (RenTech) was also born, with Tierney initially taking up the role of President. He quickly became Head of Research, with the Presidential position being filled by Hackel.
In mid-February 2012, Technocratic Renasia had finally had enough citizen activity to justify changing. With this change it was decided that Renasia should adopt a new styling, and thus with the transition came a movement to the current state of stylistic affairs, with the state becoming known as The Free State of Renasia. The current SAR system was established by Tierney, and Monovia was briefly the first SAR to become part of this system. They, however, left before September and the Treaty was annulled bilaterally.
The Free State soon accepted Gishaburn SAR, and began working on the reform of the political system to the current ruling council, or Guntanu'tl, model. This is a fused Representative Democracy/Meritocracy model, in which Tierney is the head of the Meritarchy, the Meritarch. He has overseen the expansion of Renasia into a multiculture, liberal and diverse metropolis alongside his Chancellor Kuri Kabanov. This has included the acceptance of two major SARs in Azehytl and Kozuc.

Effects on the Micronational Community

Grand Unified Micronational

In early 2009, Tierney invited several micronations to become part of a union "Similar, but not identical, in structure to the UN". This union, known as the Grand Unified Micronational, included notable members of the community and was originally designed to help to buffer against growing tensions in the community.
Over time, however, it has become one of the sculpting forces of the community at large. It is a hub of diplomacy, discussion and collective action. Tierney remains, at the time of writing, its longest total serving chairman. His total Chairmanship spans 302 days, the closest next being Robert Lethler with 265 days total service.

Awards and decorations

It can be clearly seen that Mr.Tierney has a passion for science, but what makes his passion special, is the fact that he is trying to apply it for the modernisation of micronational world. His contribution to the slow development of micronationalism through science awarded him the Order of the Blue Star. (Translated from Italian, Albo dell'Ordine della Stella Blu)
In recongition of the defining impact he and his government have had on the foreign policy of the Union of Socialist Micronational Republics by time and time again showing a strong respect, and friendship for, the Union.
