The House of Ljetzan (German: Haus Ljetzan), from which the principality takes its name, is the family which reigns by hereditary right over the principality of Ljetzan. Only dynastic members of the family are eligible to inherit the throne. The dynasty's membership, rights, and responsibilities are defined by a law of the family, which is enforced by the reigning prince and may be altered by a vote among the family's dynasty, but which may not be altered by the Government or Parliament of Ljetzan.
History
The middle Age origins
The family’s origin is traced back to the last Duke of Svevia, Conrad III.
Conradin, as he was called, took Sophie of Landsberg to be his wife. Despite the repeated claim that the couple never saw each other during their marriage, this was probably a rumor by the Anjou to discredit the family in the eyes of the population. In reality, they lived together for some time, during which they had two children, Conrad and Attilda. After the death of Corrado, executed by Charles of Anjou following the battle of Tagliacozzo, Sophie and her children took refuge in Verona, a city loyal to the Hohenstaufen family for a long time.
As the birth of an heir was kept secret, as the events continued to unfold. Their mother before returning to Germany entrusted the two boys to the care of the inhabitants of Ljetzan, a small Cimbrian town not far from Verona on the mountains of Lessinia.
They kept their princely privileges and were educated by German tutors in the tower of the main fortification, which would later become Ljetzan Castle.
For centuries, the family that became known as Von Ljetzan did not exercise any temporal power and started a pilgrimage around Europe moving from court to court.
The XXI century
In 2020 following the return to independence of the Ljetzan territories, the family soon gained power and the right to rule the newly established Principality of Ljetzan.
In accordance with the family statutes, each member of the officially recognized House bears the title of Prince of Ljetzan from birth, to which further titles or honors may be added following letters patents
