The Landtag of the Principality of Ljetzan (German: Landtag des Fürstentums Ljetzan), commonly referred to as the Landtag of Ljetzan (German: Ljetzanischer Landtag), is the unicameral parliament of Ljetzan.

History

With the ratification of the 2023 Constitution, the Principality of Ljetzan officially has its own parliament, the Landtag.

By princely decree, it consists of fifteen members; each of the 15 members is elected for a four-year term by open list proportional representation.

At the beginning of each session, a Speaker is elected, and he has the task of representing the order in the Chamber.

Qualifications

Citizens who have attained the age of 18, have permanent residency in the country, and have lived in the country for at least one month before the election can vote, and all eligible voters can run for office.

Voters can only sign support for nomination for a single list.

Election

Under the Constitution of 2023, the size of the Landtag was set at 15 members. Each of the 10 members is elected for a four-year term by open list proportional representation from two constituencies, the and Unterland the Oberland; the remaining 5 seats, are occupied according to the Constitution by working members of the Royal Family, appointed by the reigning Prince.

Parliamentary groups may be formed in the Landtag for political parties or alliances with at least three elected members. Groups are entitled to their own conference room.

Officers

The Landtag elects from amongst its members a President and a Vice-President at the opening session each year. The President serves as the Speaker of the body.

Committees

The Landtag has three standing committees consisting of three members each:

  • Foreign Affairs Commission
  • Finance Commission
  • Audit Commission

The Landtag may also appoint special and investigative committees.
