The Landtag of the Principality of Ljetzan (German: Landtag des Fürstentums Ljetzan), commonly referred to as the Landtag of Ljetzan (German: Ljetzanischer Landtag), is the unicameral parliament of Ljetzan.
History
With the ratification of the 2023 Constitution, the Principality of Ljetzan officially has its own parliament, the Landtag.
By princely decree, it consists of fifteen members; each of the 15 members is elected for a four-year term by open list proportional representation.
At the beginning of each session, a Speaker is elected, and he has the task of representing the order in the Chamber.
Functions
The function of the Landtag is covered under Chapter IV of the Constitution of Ljetzan, the first article of which states that the purpose of the Chamber is to represent the country. Ljetzan is a parliamentary democracy, in which the Chamber is elected by universal suffrage under the d'Hondt method of party-list proportional representation.
All laws must be passed by the Landtag. Each bill must be submitted to two votes in the chamber, with an interval of at least three months between the votes, for it to become law. Laws are passed by absolute majority, provided that a quorum of half of the deputies is present.
Composition
The Chamber is composed of fifteen members, called Deputies. They each represent one of the two constituencies. Each constituency elects a number of deputies proportionate to its population, with the largest electing 9 and the smallest electing 6.
Constituency | Cantons | MPs |
---|---|---|
North | Altstadt | 9 |
South | Neustadt | 6 |
Election
Deputies are elected by universal suffrage every five years, with the last election having been held on 10 June 2023. Deputies are elected by open list proportional representation, whereby all electors may vote for as many candidates as their constituency has seats. Each party is allocated a number of seats in proportion to the total number of votes cast for its candidates in that constituency.
These seats are then allocated to that party's candidates in descending order of votes that each candidate received.

Parlamentsgebäude
The Landtag of Ljetzan holds sessions in the Parliament Building (German: Parlamentsgebäude), located in Ljetzan, in the Altstadt quarter (English: Old City), the oldest part of Ljetzan. It was originally built between 1780 and 1805 as an annexe to the Ljetzan Castle, which had, until then, been used as one of many venues for the Landtag's convocations.
