The Ljetzan Democrats (German: Ljetzan Demokratische Partei) is a Social-democratic political party in Ljetzan. The Democrats are one of the two major political parties in Ljetzan, along with the monarchist conservative Christian Union. The Democrats are the relatively more liberal of the two parties, advocating constitutional monarchy and greater democracy. It is led by Amalie Bauer and has five members in the Landtag.
History
The Ljetzan Democrats were formed by the 2021 merger of the Christian-Social People's Party (VP) with the minor party Ljetzan Homeland Service (LHD). While the VP was the larger party, following the merger members of the LHD took prominent positions in the leadership of the new party.
After the 2023 elections which brought in an all-time low of votes, the Democrats provided 5 of the 15 deputies and were represented by party leader Amalie Bauer as the Leader of the Opposition to the currently Christian Union government.
Ideology
The party is liberal-conservative but has members that are more socially conservative, especially when it comes to LGBT rights. It is also economically liberal, advocating a modern liberal market economy with a balanced budget.
