The Gronean Imperial Armed Forces are the military forces of the Gronean Empire. They defend Gronea, promote the nation's wider interests abroad, support peacekeeping and help maintain Gronea's security.
The armed forces have, so far, never been engaged in any conflicts.
The commander-in-chief of the armed forces is the Gronean monarch, currently Colin I, to whom members of the armed forces swear allegiance. The Chancellor of Gronea and the Minister of State for Defence have some levels of command over the armed forces and advise the monarch on the exercise of their power over the armed forces.
History
The armed forces were officially formed at the order of Emperor Colin I on 7 September 2023. Despite this, there is a constitutional basis for the armed forces' existence dating back to the ratification of the Imperial Constitution on 6 September 2023 with the granting of the role of commander-in-chief to the imperial monarch.
Command Organisation
Emperor Colin I serves as commander-in-chief of the armed forces, with officers and servicemen swearing allegiance to him. Both the Chancellor of Gronea and Minister of State for Defence both also have authority over the armed forces, and advise the emperor on the exercise of his powers of them.
The Chief of the Defence Staff sits as the highest uniformed officer of the armed forces and as the professional head. They are appointed by the monarch and chair the Imperial High Command, the highest military body of Gronea.
The Ministry of Defence as a whole also possesses oversight of the armed forces as it is charged with the formulation and execution of defence policy.
Branches
The armed forces are split into three distinct branches; the army, navy and air force.
Imperial Army
The Gronean Imperial Army is the land force of Gronea. It is primarily infantry and is lead by the Chief of the Great General Staff. The army consists of a number of army inspectorates and any armies authorised to be formed by states all form part of the imperial army. The army defends the land borders of Gronea and also provides training and support to the naval infantry.
The Gronean Imperial Navy is the naval force of Gronea. It defends the maritime borders of the empire. The navy is organised into the fleet, which is the primary organ of the navy, and the naval infantry, who act as Gronea's marine corps.
The imperial navy is commanded by the Chief of the Naval Staff.
Imperial Air Force
The Gronean Imperial Air Force is the air and space defence and warfare force of Gronea. Lead by the Chief of the Air Staff, the GIAF aims for protect the integrity of Gronea's airspace and maintain Gronean air supremacy. The air force is the primary operator of military aircraft belonging to Gronea.
Recruitment
The armed forces seeks to recruit soldiers and officers from throughout Gronea. There is no active conscription but all citizens are encouraged to serve.
The minimum age to join the armed forces is 16 and all servicemen have to pass a selection process to be eligible for service. Selection and training is different between branches and entry levels.
