Gizmo , 5th Chief Hamster of Hamsterland, is the current Chief Hamster of the State of Hamsterland since 5 February 2024. He is the first Chief Hamster to be born outside of Gävle, being born in Linköping. Before becoming Chief Hamster Gizmo served as the nations second ever Deputy Chief Hamster and the first male holder of the office.
Early life
Gizmo was born on 16 August 2023 in Linköping.
Deputy Chief Hamster
Gizmo was appointed Deputy Chief Hamster in September 2023 following the death of Bamse when Dolly, the previous deputy, had risen to the post of Chief Hamster. His appointment had first been planned to take place earlier but due to the Government being on holiday in the Republic of Turkey and Congress in recess the congressional approval was delayed. After assuming office Gizmo was quickly forced to try and keep the unstable Triumvirate Government together as disagreements between its parties started to arise.
Following the Hamsterland 2024 Chamber Election the triumvirate collapsed and Gizmo was together with Dolly thrust into the process of forming a new government. This resulted in a minority Libertarian Party government being appointed by Dolly and Gizmo formally convened its first meeting. This was the first time a Deputy Chief Hamster participated in the government formation process and then convened the first meeting of the new government, the latter task formerly being held by the Chief Hamster. On 30 January 2024 Gizmo became Acting Chief Hamster after Dolly suffered a stroke. 5 days later she passed away.
Chief Hamster
Following Dollys death Gizmo with immediate effect became the nations 5th Chief Hamster. He is the second hamster to directly succeed a Chief Hamster in the position and the first not to be born in Gävle. Shorlty after becoming Chief Hamster Gizmo began the search for his succesor as Deputy Chief Hamster. Eventually Benny, a hamster from Örebro, was nominated and approved by Congress. On 1 March 2024 Gizmo formally appointed Benny. In April 2024 Gizmo signed the National Relocation Act into law, approving a relocation of the nation in October 2024.
As Dolly has not yet been burried, Gizmo still has not had a formal inauguration ceremony. If he will ever have one remains to be seen.
