The General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Marbordo, officially the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Marbordo, is the leader of the Workers' Party of Marbordo (WPM), the sole ruling party of the Democratic Republic of Marbordo, and the country's supreme leader. Marcus Salisbury has held the post since its establishment in 2024.
The general secretary is ex officio the Chairman of the State Council, Marbordo's collective head of state, as well as commander-in-chief of the Marbordan People's Army, making the office the most powerful position in the country.
History
The Workers' Party of Marbordo predates the establishment of Marbordo itself. On 15 July 2024, the party was officially founded by Canadian micronationalist Marcus Salisbury as the result of a merger between several defunct communist parties on Vancouver Island. In August of that same year, Salisbury was elected general secretary by its newly created central committee and soon afterward he declared the independence of the Democratic Republic of Marbordo to fulfill the party's goal of building a socialist state within a micronational framework.
Election
The general secretary is elected to a renewable five-year term by the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Marbordo, from among the members of the Politburo, its highest organ of political power.
Powers and position
As Marbordo is a one-party state, the general secretary possesses total control over both party and government. The general secretary has the power to lead the overall affairs of state and policy, and appoint all diplomatic officials. He also has the authority to appoint diplomatic representatives abroad, conclude treaties with foreign powers, declare a state of emergency or a state of war, and direct the national defense of Marbordo during times of war.
