The Fesmarian empire is a Micronation located in Cornwall, whilst originally started March 12, 2018, the kingdom represented a resolution to the post second empire power vacuum. Unlike its predecessors the empire prioritizes equality amongst all people, alongside democratic freedoms. Laws previously seen as restricting, such as restrictions on freedom of the press and speech, have been repealed, seeing a golden age of political expression in the empire. The empire also enjoys renewed diplomatic relations, with several nations expressing enthusiasm to work with the empire. Often cited by its citizenry as the 'old empire' the empire still contends with the international view of Fesmar as unstable, a view built on the post imperial crisis, which saw successive government change and provincialism. This view is not assisted by the remaining fourth Fesmarian empire, which harkens back to the post imperial period. The empire has also seen a massive reduction in size from previous governments, limiting its legislative body to a single mixed elected and appointed house of 16 peers.

Fesmar is also known for its activity pertaining to Cornwall, which has garnered mixed response within the wider community of micronations, and even in its current state the empire continues to speak up for minority right, particularly those of Celtic and French origin. Other notable policies of Fesmar in regards to its interactions with other micronations, are its commitments to human rights, often seeking peaceful reform of nations lacking in areas such as LGBT rights and freedom of expression.

Fesmarian government operates as a semi-constitutional monarchy, where the Monarch is given limited power, however is allowed to be active in the political community of Fesmar through actions such as proposing legislation and forming political parties. Despite this, the nation is highly dedicated to democratic freedoms, retaining an even amount of appointed and elected members to the senate. Fesmarian government is also unique in its handling of royalty, by having multiple legitimate heirs exist, under the titles Prince of Penzancia, and Prince of Helstonia, with the senate electing which of the two heirs shall be made the next monarch.

Etymology

Commonly known as Fesmar, the empire is often referred to by its citizens as the empire. The use of the term as a description of Fesmar by its citizens, emphasises the traditional notion of Fesmarian imperial supremacy, a now debunked belief that Fesmar was the sole bastion of civilised society in the micronational community, this belief coincided with the dominant policy of isolationism which gripped Fesmar at the time. The name Fesmar originates from the current Monarch, who chose the name as it was decidedly unique.

Government

Overview

The government of Fesmar is a uni-carmel constitutional monarchy, with the current head of state being Queen Morwenna I of the Fydtroust dynasty. The senate of Fesmarian equals is the sole legislative body for the nation, with its members be divided between 8 elected and 8 appointed members. The current Chancellor is Marquess Ann Mark of the Camel march, who was made chancellor on March 18, upon the sudden resignation of former chancellor Sir Michael Smith.

Nobility

The ruling dynasty of Fesmar is the Fydtroust dynasty, whos members are directly related either through blood, marriage or adoption. Both heirs to the kingdom are members of the Fydtroust dynasty, whos head is Morwenna Fydtroust, with the primary heir, Prince Roadrunner, being of the Ainsworth cadet branch. The dynasty retains limited influence in Groot-Brabant, Begonia, and the Monmarkian Empire.

History

Fesmar was first founded on March 12, 2018, it began as a crowned republic under the name Republic of Fesmar, later transitioning into a socialist state. During the first few days of its existence, Fesmar saw massive expansion, and caused a number of micronational wars with neighbouring Cornish micronations. Because of this, the socialist government became unpopular amongst the expanding citizenry of Fesmar.

The First Empire

Created on March 15, 2018, the first empire, found itself nearly immediately in a conflict known as the continuation war, which would be the largest inter-micronational conflict in the history of the Cornish micronational community. The continuation war would result in the defeat of the Fesmarians after the loss of several key battles, such as the battle of Tehidy. During its existence, the first empire was run as an imperial autocracy, taking several ideas and institutions from the Roman empire of antiquity and other European empires, such as the Holy Roman Empire and the first French empire.

The Era of the Eagle

After the loss of the continuation war, Fesmar would not reappear until late May, where it became a fascist republic, under the rule of Beninso Amaedeus Aquila, who was known to many as simply "the Eagle". Beninso would run Fesmar as a Cornish only ethno-state, banning the use of English in government discussions, and enforcing a two language policy of Latin and Cornish. Beninso would become known for his plans to overthrow the local government in Cornwall. The Eagle would later be toppled by the Restorationists in the Fesmarian civil war.

The Second Empire

The second empire was founded upon the successfully reclamation of Fesmar by the Fydtroust dynasty. The empire would see a spike in citizenship and territorial claims, later resulting in a period referred to as 'the Fesmarian golden age'. The second empire would be known for the creation of many of the current traditions and practices seen in Fesmar. The second empire would later collapse into multiple smaller successor states, during a period known as the Crisis of the second empire.

The Crisis of the Second Empire

The crisis began when due to the declining health of the empress, the heir of Fesmar, the prince of Trelawny, launched a coup in the nation, which broke down the remaining national stability. For an extended period of time the regions of previous empire would maintain independence, during this period multiple smaller Fesmarian successor empires would appear, each losing control over increasingly large areas of land. The crisis would only end with the restoration of the declaration of the 4th imperial era.

Geography

Fesmar is located predominantly in the British south west. Most of the nation comprises of open fields and farmland. Notably the nation professes to maintain nominal control of the Cargenwyn stream which later connects to the Dowr Koner. Fesmar is distinctly split between the northern provinces and southern provinces by the 'tehidy' woods, this limits access between the capital and the north.

Culture

Fesmarian culture is remarkable in that distinct sub-cultural groups have naturally formed throughout Cornwall and Belgium. Proto-Fesmarian culture, originates solely from modern day Glynawan, and represents and evolution of ancient Gallo-Celtic traditions and cultural practices, predominantly Cornish in origin. Devolutions of the Proto-Fesmarian culture can be noted as early as the restoration, which indicates the extinction of Proto-Fesmarian culture occurred within the first year of its existence. Other notable cultural groups are that of the Neo-Fesmarians, Stormholdians and Belgicans.

Neo-Fesmarian Culture

Neo-Fesmarian culture is a distinct sub-culture within the greater family of Fesmarian cultures. Neo-Fesmarian was first observed as a distinct sub-culture after the fall of the third Fesmarian empire, unlike classical Fesmarians, the Neo-Fesmarian's have less of an imperialistic and militaristic set of social values, instead considering ultra-violent and aggressive actions as deviant. Other values such as a commitment to equality and open embracement of homosexuality, have shown a unique edge to Neo-Fesmarian culture not seen in its classical counterpart.
