ZPR or Zvenigorodian PR, officially Zvenigorodian People's Republic (Russian: Звенигородская Народная Республика) is a self-proclaimed proto-state located to the west from Moscow in Moscow Oblast, Odintsovsky City District (but Zvenigorod is not recognized as a part of Odintsovsky City District by ZPR authorities) claiming the town of Zvenigorod and multiple surrounding villages.

Etymology

Zvenigoridan People's Republic is named after the macronational town and micronational city of Zvenigorod as the biggest and most developed settlement in its claims.

History

Since the 13th century Zvenigorod and its surroundings has been a cultural centre of the region attracting the attention of various prominent people including some of the most famous russian writers Alexander Pushkin and Anton Chekhov.

Tsardom of Russia

Zvenigorod was settled in 1152 by Yuri Dolgoruky. From 1339 to 1492 Zvenigorod was the capital of the Zvenigorod appanage principality thus having a big influence over the nearby lands. The first mention of Zvenigorod refers to the spiritual letter of the Moscow prince Ivan Danilovich Kalita in 1339. year: “And behold, I give Zvenigorod to my son Ivan,” (ru. "А се даю сыну своему Ивану Звенигород") and in the chronicle the first information about Zvenigorod appeared in 1382.
