The term "micronorod" was coined by Ștefan Marius Snagoveanu. Snagov is an example of a micronorod.

A micronorod is a small[a] unrecognized proto-state that distinguishes itself from micronations through its serious pursuit of macronational objectives. Unlike most micronations, which often exist as hobbyist or satirical endeavors, micronorods emerge organically from specific geographical, ethnic, or cultural contexts, and their identities are deeply rooted in the local traditions, histories, and communities they represent.

Micronorods are characterized by their commitment to protecting and promoting local cultures, languages, and traditions, often establishing cultural institutions to support these efforts. They may also prioritize the conservation of natural landscapes and biodiversity, implementing eco-friendly policies and sustainable living practices within their territories. Some micronorods, such as Snagov, represent distinct ethnic groups that often strive for political autonomy or even full secession from larger nation-states, driven by a desire for self-determination and the preservation of their ethnic identity.
