Lead up
This was the second democratic election in Kazzian History. Before 2022, Kaz had been an elected monarchy for over 5 years. There was no internal call for democracy, with the Pentumvirate being overwhelmingly liked. However, in mid 2022 calls for an elected body began to arise. Concerned by this, the Pentumvirate ordered a constitutional review to be conducted by Zachary Blackston. The report found major flaws in the current constitution, and proposed making an elected body called the Citizen Assembly, and passing most power to it. The new constitution was approved unanimously, and Kazzians held their first elections in 2022 where they elected the Whigs with 5 seats, the P.A.H. with 4 seats and the Party of Feline Divinity (PFD) to the Assembly.
Election
In the lead up to the election, the three major parties from the prior election, the Whigs P.A.H. and PFD, combined to form the Royalist Party. Though the merger of the two secular parties, the Whigs and the P. A H. seemed logical, few expected the radical PFD to join the coalition. Their admission was largely due to the fears from the Catist parties about a growing anti-monarch movement. In response, several new opposition parties sprung up. The first was a economically conservative party called the Fiscal Party, which called for Kaz to tighten its budget. A radical anti cat party also arose known as the Secular Party, but they failed to make any headway. The MKAA party, Make Kaz American Again, a single issue party on reintegration into the United States also ran.
It was widely expected that the Royalist Party, which prior to the election controlled 100% of the seats in the Citizen's Assembly, would sweep the elections. This did not happen. Though they did come out victorious, the Royalist Party lost nearly half of their base and ended with a slight majority in the Assembly. The Fiscal Party did surprisingly well, only loosing to the Royalist Party by 1 vote. The Royalist party is expected to govern until the next election in 2026. The MKAA and Secular Party failed to win any seats. This is a massive blow to the anit-monarch movement in Kaz as all 9 seats are currently help by pro-monarch parties. Voter turnout also decreased significantly from the first Kazzian Citizen Assembly Election in 2022, falling from 85% to 64%. Of the 64%, 44% came from Kaz itself with the remaining 56% coming from citizens living outside of the country. This number was fairly static from the 2022 election where 41% of the vote came from the Kazzian homeland.
