The Democratic-Diplomatic Party of Excelsior, more commonly called the DDP or Democratic Socialist Party, was a political party of the United States of the Terra Excelsior Republic.

It was the second majority party in terms of senate seats and minority in terms of registered voters within Excelsior. It was founded by Excelsior chancellor Nicolas w. on the 31st of October, 2020. The motto was "The party of reason". People who were registered with the DDP, around 10 people at dissolution, were referred to as diplomats. The DDP controlled 4 out of the 13 seats in the Senate of Excelsior. While officially the DDP was the name of the party, it was widely regarded as the democratic-socialist party, as it was completely controlled by its democratic-Socialist faction.

The faction was the de jure party.

The DPP was dissolved on August 8, 2021, in favor of Nicolas W.'s new Democratic-Socialist Party

Name

The name of the party reflected its most important values, democracy and diplomacy. the DDP was founded, in part, just to oppose the growing militarian movement created by the former opposition party, the Democratic-Militarian party. however, the name has gone through many changes, originally being the Gaplan-Diplomatic party.

History

Gaplan Era

The party was founded during the Gapla crisis, where the nation was split over diplomacy with the federated states of Gapla. Originally called the Gaplan-diplomatic party, or the GDP, it stood for pacifism, de-militarization, and open relations with Gapla. (you can find more about the Gapla debate on our nation's page.) its main political rival was the majority party at the time, the democratic-militarian party, run by president Silas. Silas, who was originally the secretary of homeland security and defense, was appointed by the chancellor in a special election after the resignation of president Akash. He had always stood for more military control over government, so during the Gapla crisis, which turned out to be a misunderstanding, he wanted to cut all ties with Gapla, and possibly wage war. Thus, the GDP was created. It remained the most left of the two parties, but as the militarian threat grew, and became more hostile towards countries besides Gapla, the party changed its name to the DDP to reflect its commitment to worldwide pacifism.

Government Control Era

Slowly, the party began to see more flaws in the country, specifically with the economy. The party believed that private industry was diverting the workforce from what they believed was the first priority, government service. They also believed for such as small country, a private economy was simply unnecessary. They changed their name to the Democratic-Diplomatic-Socialist party, or the DDSP, and began calling for nationalization of industry. However, due to lack of public support, the short-lived name was quickly replaced with the classic DDP name.

Prosperity Era

The current era, during the prosperity era, the party saw its biggest gains. After an apology from Gapla, chairman of the DMP Silas saw no reason to continue his party, and dissolved it, as now there was no hostility felt towards Gapla. The DDP had finally won the monthslong battle for Gaplan diplomacy, and a treaty was signed on the 13th of January, 2021. Everyone aligned with Silas's party was transferred to the DDP, so the DDP became the majority, and only party in the country. Only three out of 20 citizens were not members; these 3 were independents. However, Silas formed a faction within the party called the democratic-institutional faction, and threatened to secede it when necessary. In response, as second faction was created, the socialist faction, which again called for nationalization of industry.

Breakup of the parties

In May 2021, after long negotiations, President Silas and his Democratic-Institutionalist faction broke off from the DDP, forming their own new party, The democratic party, currently the majority in terms of registered voters, and in the senate. Around this time, justice Jasper created the Excelsioran communist party.

Factions

Within the party, there was one faction, the DS faction, or the socialists, who aligned with the party's beliefs, but have many independent beliefs of their own. This is untrue, as in reality the ideology of the DDP was the same as the faction, but the DDP was preserved for stability and historical claims. They de jure controlled the entire party.
