The Executive Council is the chief executive body in Galway City, and is led by the elected Governor, currently Marco Hasse since 9 March 2023. It is responsible for advising the Governor on his executive and legislative duties. The Council serves at the pleasure of the Governor or until his resignation.
History
On 14 May 2022, a devolution charter was granted to Galway City, the council of ministers was formed. On the 6th of January 2023, the Council of Ministers was renamed the Executive Council after the passing of the Provincial Government Act.
Composition
The Executive Council is the devolved executive, which administers laws in the province. There are 4 departments, headed by an officer titled Provincial Secretary. The provincial secretaries are appointed by the Governor.
