Baustralian Highway 8 or the Randouler Highway, formerly Highway 500 and the King's Highway, starts at Highway 2 in Wabasso into Westminster, and along into Gloucester. The route is generally north-south running, however tends to be very curvy. On 10 June 2020, with the advice of the Secretary of State for Routes, King John I announced the redesignation of the Wabasso-Westminster portion of the highway from King's Highway to Randouler Highway, in memory of Nicholas Randouler.
Original route
The original route started at Highway 2 in the north-west corner of Mild Pond, along the Mild Pond woods, up and over Tower Hill, and hooks left before the Towerhill Farms barn. It hooks right, south to Peterborough County Road 4. The route terminated here. Highway 26 was later commissioned on the other side of County Road 4.
Highways 26 and 29
Highway 26 and Highway 29 are former Baustralian highways in Westmister. They formerly ran south along the same line as Highway 8 up to Highway 27. The northern section, numbered 26, stops at a creek, while the southern section, 29, starts on the other side of the creek up to Highway 27. The roads were made continuous, and was amalgamated with Highway 8.
Highway 27
Highway 27 was a highway that started at Highway 8, looped along the borders of Westminster, and out to Douro Second Line. Highway 8 terminated along this route, but was extended to include the section to Douro Second Line. Highway 53 assumed the remainder of the route upon its own expansion.
Expansion and concurrency with Highway 34
Highway 8 became concurrent with Highway 34 for the whole length after Highway 8 was extended to Gloucester in late April 2022. Highway 34 remained for a period of time, before being assumed entirely by Highway 8. Highway 34 signs will remain, with an OLD tab placed above, before that too is removed.
