AMUN was established on 24 June 2022 to connect Avalonia to United Nations policy and is an ongoing mission within the country's Diplomatic Service. James Murray serves as the AMUN Head of Mission and Permanent Representative of Avalonia to the United Nations.

2022 United Nations Visit

The Avalonian Mission to the United Nations visited UN headquarters in New York City from 8–12 July 2022. One of the main focuses of the mission's visit to the UN was to observe the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. Every July, the HLPF is hosted in review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the global level. On the visit, the AMUN delegation visited the UN General Assembly and United Nations Economic and Social Council and met with representatives from various departments, funds, programs, and specialized agencies.

AMUN's delegates spoke with officials from the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, the United Nations Population Fund, and met with the fourth executive director of UNICEF. The delegation also attended numerous HLPF special events surrounding Sustainable Development Goal 16: peace, justice and strong institutions. These sessions were hosted by the UN's Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Office for Intergovernmental Support and Coordination for Sustainable Development, Association for International Broadcasting, and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance.

Following the conclusion of the 2022 visit, AMUN's mission will continue to closely follow the ongoings of the United Nations. Much of this work will help to implement policy in Avalonia to reinforce sustainability, environmental protection, and the protection of human rights with justice-based government institutions.
