The Return of the Hanslandic Princes to Ellesmere (French: Le Retour des Princes hanslandais à Ellesmere) is the national anthem of the Kingdom of Hansland. It uses the melody from Vive Henri IV and an adapted version of the lyrics from Le Retour des Princes français à Paris (The Return of the French Princes to Paris), the de facto anthem of France during the Bourbon Restoration, which also employed the same melody.
The title reflects the 2019 journey to Ellesmere Island by Hansland's monarch Carl I and his vow to someday return and lead an expedition to Hans Island, the kingdom's claimed territory, in person.
History
The idea of claiming Hans Island initially came to Canadian micronationalist Carl Ó Gairbhith during his 2019 visit to Grise Fiord on nearby Ellesmere Island, Canada's northernmost inhabited region. The following year, he proclaimed himself King of Hansland and publicly declared his sovereignty over Hans island, which as at that time long-disputed between Canada and Denmark.[a] While the anthem is intentionally theatrical in a comedic fashion, it has nonetheless become a prominent symbol of Hanslandic pride and determination to achieve real sovereignty over the isolated Arctic island.
Lyrics
Verse 1
Peace returns
All Hanslandic princes
Sing the anthem,
Today and henceforth
We embrace this happiness
Long live the King! Long live peace!
Verse 2
Long live Hansland
And the wise Ó Gairbhiths
Full of mercy,
Victors of the Whisky War!
Peace and abundance
Has come from Ellesmere
Refrain
What extreme joy
Canadians be gone!
And Danes retreat!
Sing all for
Hans Island's freedom
Now and forever!
Verse 3
The ruler
Of Hansland is a king
Our everlasting hope
Is the reason why
Yes, Carl loves us
Long live the King!
Verse 4
No more sadness,
Long live Carl!
Princes, princesses,
We are delighted,
That joys shall
Prevail in all countries!

Notes
- ↑ Canada and Denmark formally resolved their dispute by dividing Hans Island between the two countries in 2022. Hansland rejects this agreement, and still claims sovereignty over the island.
