Etymology note

Two points to be made:

  • "Micropatriology" predates the term "micropatriotism" (indeed the latter doesn't seem to appear at all.) Patria is Latin for 'fatherland,' clearly this is the root of the term based on analogy with patriology. This is also apparent from early variant spellings as "micropatrology."
  • A calque is a word-for-word translation. Were micropatriology derived from "micropatriotism" it still would not be a calque -- one cannot calque English into English.
