Superstorm Sammy, also known as Windstorm Sanders or The Windstorm of the Decade was an extreme Nerdic windstorm that continued the 2022-24 Bathtub City flood, destroyed all buildings in its area, and killed more than half of the Bathtub City population. The 21st windstorm of the extremely active 2023-24 Nerdic windstorm season, Sammy originated from a low system over a Boone County park.

Meteorological history

Sammy originated from a moderate rainstorm that caused moderate flooding and extreme winds. Later, the rainstorm was named Sammy. Sammy intensified on June 9 over Greater Seafortress and later that same day, made landfall on Bathtub City with extreme winds and rain. Later that same day, Sammy executed a loop from Bathtub City to Lake Seafortress and reintensified by absorbing a low-pressure system.

Effects

Lake Seafortress

Lake Seafortress was not hit hard, but was instead moderately hit. At first landfall, Sammy was not too intense and caused minimal damage.

Second landfall

Sammy's second landfall hit Seafortress harder than any other storm had before. Bridges were destroyed, people drowned, and valuable things were damaged.

Bathtub City

Bathtub City was destroyed after Sammy, and potentially rendered uninhabitable for weeks.

Bathtub City had been rendered uninhabitable by Sammy due to the flooding, rogue waves and seafloor currents that pushed people into the tide.

The press most of the time had compared the damage to "A military base, with visitors that collapsed in a bombing and no one made it.".

Second landfall

On June 10th, Sammy had made its second landfall over Bathtub city, just one day after Sammy's Superstorm landfall.

Sammy had destroyed anything in its path and drowned anyone in the eyewall.

Evacuation was not possible from Sammy's landfall, which worsened the damage.

Records

Sammy had become the fastest intensifying Nerdic windstorm, the wettest Nerdic windstorm, the strongest landfalling storm and the deadliest Nerdic Windstorm. These records were broken again later that year by Hurricane Deez Nuts.

Retirement

On June 12, 2023, the name was retired and replaced with Sanders for the 2024-25 season. As Sammy was still active, the storm became Sammy-Sanders.
