In 1998, the family of Mahmud II of Tungristan fled from Tungristan to Paris and declaring the opposition exiled micronation group named the Sultanate of Tungristan in-exile (Ikhsen: تانگوستان سۇلتان سۈرن). In 2017 Mahmud II made Carshalton the new capital-in-exile and died there and made his successor his son, Mahmud III of Tungristan after he died of Coronavirus in 2020. It was abolished after the restoration of the Sultanate of Tungristan in 2022.
