The Royal Standard of Norton

The Royal Standard of Norton (étendard royal) is the official flag of the King of Norton. It comprises a crimson square, traditional colour of the Nortonian monarch, with the coat of arms of the King in the centre, surrounded by the heraldic collar of the Order of the Two Saints. It is raised over the official royal residence in Roesstal, the Camellia Palace and other Nortonian royal and governmental sites, when the monarch is in residence and displayed on his official car as a small flag. The current flag was adopted when Alexander acceded the throne as King of Norton on 30 May 2022. The royal standard is expected to be defined and regulated by the Estates General shortly.

The Royal Guidon

The Royal Guidon, the military personal ensign, was also adopted on 30 May 2022. As with the civilian royal standard, the royal guidon is expected to be defined and regulated by the Estates General.

It is similar to the Royal Standard except the Royal Guidon has a gold surround. It is made of silk's taffeta and measures 80 x 80 cm in size. It is the personal command sign or positional flag of the monarch, as the Head of the Armed Forces and is traditionally carried with him during ceremonial military events and inspections.

Historical standards, guidons and banners of arms during the republican administration (2021-22)

The heraldic standard, has been, as in other European monarchies, the personal flag of the Nortonian monarchs and has been used in events of greater solemnity. It was formed by the elements of the monarch's shield without the exterior adornments and has not changed its general design since its introduction upon the transition to a monarchy in 2022.

The royal standard is the personal banner of the monarch. The design of the royal standard was heavily influenced by that of the presidential standard in use during the republican period of government, known as the State of Norton. The standard contained the presidential seal alongside three golden stripes (which represented the executive government). The same colour of crimson red was transferred to the official design of the royal standard, at the request of Alexander I, who is said to favour the colour.

The Standard of a Regent of Norton

The Standard of the Prince Royal (heir apparent to the Nortonian Throne) (étendard du prince royal) will shortly be regulated by the Estates General, alongside the Royal Standard of Norton.

The Prince's Standard comprises a dark purple (the colour of the heir apparent) square flag displaying the coat of arms of the Prince Royal in the centre. The Guidon, his military ensign has a gold surround. The standard is currently not in use due to the lack of an heir apparent within the royal family, the Heir Presumptive uses their own respective standard instead.

During a regency, the appointed Regent is entitled to bear the standard of a Regent of Norton. The standard is white, bearing the royal crown, orb, sword and sceptre of Norton.
