The Republic of Trénois was a small American micronation founded in 2006 and led by a council of three leaders known as elders. The micronation later became inactive.
On 26 May 2009, one of the elders, Will "Guillaume" Sœrgèl, would secede from Trénois and declare the independence of a new country- Sandefreistikhan. After 21 June 2009, Sandefreistikhan would become Sandus.
Overview
Trénois is a small micronation north-west of the downtown Columbia area. It is landlocked by the State of Maryland and by Howard County. Trénois has 5 people. There is one road there, paved and unpaved in sections, called Rue du Nationale. The capital, Trénoî, is surrounded by a bamboo forest in the north-east of the country. Trénoî is located on the Nois stream, and near the Trén river (Middle Patuxent).
Government
The Trénois government is based off Athenian democracy: all people have a vote. Although, in specific times, 3 people take lead of the country: thus making Trénois both a democracy and a triarchy. These triarchs are referred to as Elders. The present ones are Will Sœrgel, Alex Johnson and Scott Johnson. They may only take office if:
- War is declared
- Natural disaster
- Death of a citizen
- Major building operation
- Private matters
- State [Marshal] Law is declared
The people of the congress vote on pressing matters. The latest was the adoption of Le Confessions des Citoyens [English: Confessions of the Citizens; a.k.a., their Constitution] The congress votes on:
- War
- Building operations
- Trial by jury
- Other
Also, the Elders have the same amount of votes as the citizens: they are, in fact, citizens, only acting on their experience to protect the country.
Religion
Although the Confessions des Citoyens gives freedom of religion, most people are Christian. 80% of the country is Christian, 50% of that are Baptist and 50% are Lutheran. Only one person is different, whom is Tibetan Buddhist.
There are no places of worship in Trénois.
Transportation
There is only one road, which is paved and unpaved in various sections, called the Rue du Nationale. The only vehicles allowed in Trénois are bicycles, skateboards, scooters, skates, and other recreational vehicles.
Rue du Nationale
The Rue du Nationale is the only road in Trénois. Truely, is is 4 roads and 3 highways, but it is to remain one road till further notice. The Rue du Nationale runs through Trénoî, the capital of Trénois.
Regions
There are 3 regions, Trénoî (where the capital is), the Swamp, and Le Fleuve (where the river Trén, or Middle Patuxent, is; namely as Fleuve in French means River). Le Fleuve, because of it's large area, is classified into areas: Lower, Classical Trénoî (where the country was formed), and Higher.
Anthem
Le Chant des Partisans was a song first created in World War II. It is the national anthem of Trénois.
