Provinstadt is the capital city of the Democratic Union of New Pulaskia, and its president's official seat of power and residence. It is the historical capital of the Union, with it being the site of the appointment of the first President, Treasurer, and Vice President. It is the site of the specially created Capital Territory.
Etymology
The name of Provinstadt comes from the German language and means “provincial city”. This likely came from the fact that this was the first “provincial city” or capital to be created. It may have also simply come from the city being the provincial capital during its time as the capital of Pulaski Province. The word province itself descends from the Latin word “provincia” and city from the Latin "civitatem", and the city's name is often shown alongside or hyphenated together with North Little Rock to avoid any confusion.
History
Provinstadt’s history dates back to mound-building people who lived in the region before colonization. After European settlement, a town was founded, originally named "Argenta", a name currently applied to downtown North Little Rock's Argenta Arts District. In 1890, the neighboring city of Little Rock, across the Arkansas River, annexed the unincorporated Argenta community as its Eighth Ward, preempting a competing petition to incorporate Argenta. A neighboring area was incorporated as the Town of North Little Rock in 1901 as part of a plan to reclaim the Eighth Ward from Little Rock. By 1904, the Arkansas Supreme Court allowed the town to annex the Eighth Ward; the modern City of North Little Rock considers this its founding date. The combined city adopted the Argenta name by 1906 but reverted to North Little Rock in October 1917. A remnant of the city's earliest years can be found in North Little Rock City Hall (constructed in 1914), which still contains plaques referring to "Argenta", and contains "C of A" (City of Argenta) ornamental designs.
The City of Provinstadt was officially created in January 2022 when it was declared the capital of New Pulaskia, though its origins go back further. During the time of the Jaelandian War and Zackstovia, it became a part of the Overbrook Autonomous Region within Zackstovia, with its own flag, which is lost to time, but still survives from interviews. It would become the capital of the Republic of Overbrook, named for the neighborhood of the capital, and later of the Beiyang Republic and Nordlandia, which it may have given a name to. In the beginning, it was the only claimed land within New Pulaskia. However, this soon changed with the annexation of Alexander and Bryant, both would be added to New Pulaskia as territories and later provinces.
The City grew as the capital but did not hold the same importance as the rapidly rising city of Bryant, and its neighbor of Benton. It was recently the site of the burial of Oakie, a small stuffed raccoon believed to be missing, with a gravestone erected; luckily, the raccoon has recently been recovered. Though little important Pulaskian history has taken place in the city, it still serves as the part-time residence of the President. The city took over the Provinstadt Park and Nature Reserve in March 2022 by the consent of the people, with a part of the area already being within the bounds of the Capitol Building, and the rest officially becoming a Pulaskian national park. The city is now the smallest year-round populated city in the nation, tied with Alexander and behind the giants of Benton and Bryant.
Climate and Geography
Provinstadt houses the Provinstadt National Park and Nature Reserve, a part of the city stretching down to 5-Mile Creek. It houses a multitude of trees, plants, and rocks. The Capitol Building is two stories high, with 4 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, a good-sized kitchen/dining room, a living room, and an office. It also houses a garden in the front, filled with various flowers and plants. Despite the entire house being claimed by the United States, and other residents not being Pulaskians currently, the entire house including Provinstadt National Park is still claimed by Pulaskia. Provinstant has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and cold winters. Rainfall and snowfall are evenly divided among the months of the year, and yearly sunshine hours average a whopping 5,232. Summer is hot and humid in Provinstadt, with average highs of 93 °F (34 °C). Winters are generally mild to cool, with average temperatures of 55 °F (13 °C). Early spring (March) is cool-ish and mid and late spring (April/May) is warm to hot.
