Sunnhordland (/ˈSunnhordland/ Sunn-hord-land Audio file "Rothesay_en.ogg" not found), more commonly known as The Principality of Sunnhordland, is a micronation and self-declared independent sovereign state located within Sunnhordland, Norway.
The Principality of Sunnhordland was founded and proclaimed an independent sovereign state on December 2, 2020, by the current head of state, Her Royal Highness Princess Carole of the Principality of Sunnhordland. The state is governed by an absolute monarchy with an elected Chancellor-Premier who serves as the Head of State. The Queen is above members of the governing body.
The Principality of Sunnhordland is a recognized nation according to the 1933 Montevideo Convention on the Rights and Duties of States. A treaty signed in Montevideo, Uruguay, on December 26, 1933, which codified the declarative theory of statehood as accepted as part of customary international law. However, the Kingdom is not officially recognized by the Norwegian government or other members of the United Nations.
Etymology
The name Sunnhordland is derived from "søndre Hordaland" which means "the southern part of Hordaland". It is similar in nature to the nearby districts of Nordhordland and Midhordland.
People from Sunnhordland are called Sunnhordlendinger and the people in this area speak a Norwegian dialect called Sunnhordlandsmål.
Government
The Principality of Sunnhordland has been governed by an absolute monarchy since its formation on 3 December 2020, with HRH Princess Carole as the head of state. The government consists of the Queen, her family, and the Chancellor-Premier, to make decisions across the land.
