The Prime Minister of Yalta is the head of government of the Kingdom of Yalta. They act as a senior advisor to the monarch, chair the cabinet and nominate its ministers. The prime minister, by convention, holds office by virtue of their ability to command confidence in the House of Commons so they sit as a Member of Parliament.

History

After the monarchy, the prime ministry is the oldest office in Yalta. The office was established on 1 May 2023.

Authority and Power

The prime minister is head of the Government of Yalta, as such they lead the executive (the cabinet). In addition, the prime minister leads a major political party and generally commands a majority in the House of Commons (the lower house of the Yaltan Parliament). The incumbent wields both significant legislative and executive powers as in the Yaltan system there is unity of powers.

In the House of Commons, the prime minister guides the law-making process with the goal of enacting the legislative agenda of their political party. In an executive capacity, the prime minister nominates for appointment (and may dismiss) all other cabinet members and ministers, and co-ordinates the policies and activities of all government departments, and the staff of the civil service. The prime minister also acts as the public face and voice of His Majesty's Government, both at home and abroad.

The prime minister also acts as a senior and key advisor to the monarch - recommending people for honours, appointments in senior Church of Yalta positions, high judicial appointments, senior military appointments and awarding of honours.

Deputies

Officially the prime minister's deputy is the Deputy Prime Minister of Yalta, however the office of deputy prime minister isn't always used. Sometimes, if appointed, the First Secretary of State acts as deputy prime minister.

Appointment

The prime minister is appointed by the Monarchy of Yalta, who can appoint any citizen they wish to the office. However, by convention, they pick the person who is likely to command the most confidence in the House of Commons - normally the leader of the party with the most seats in the Commons.
