The October 2016 Shaoshanian Assembly election was a legislative election to elect all 8 seats of the People's Council. The Chairman of the People's Council is the equivalent of a "President pro tempore" and is thusly delegated to the Vice President of Shaoshan. The People's Council was elected based on a multi-party proportional representation. Each candidate must receive at least 15% of the vote to carry a seat in the council. The election was held on October 5th, 2016 and the swearing in of members is set for October 15th.
