The Sultanate of Occussi-Ambeno, more commonly known as Occussi-Ambeno, is a micronation in south-east Asia, located on the island of Timor. Formerly a colony of Portugal, it achieved full independence in 1968.
The country is an absolute monarchy, presently ruled by His Majesty, Sri Sultan Gare the first.
The country has a co-operative attitude to foreign relations and engages in trade and commerce with many other Fifth World countries. It joined the International Council of Independent States (the "United Nations" of the Fifth World) in 1985.
Etymology
The name was chosen in 1881, when the country was founded, being a hyphenated word made from the main port town (Okusi), now called Chadwick, and the hinterland (Ambeno). But the name has a greater significance, for in its ancient Egyptian version, written as hieroglyphics, it means "Great pounding from a harp". Egyptian explorers are thought to have been among the earliest visitors to the country.
History
The country was formed in 1881, when seven small principalities united to better resist the interloping Portuguese. Later, it fell under Portuguese suzerainty, but finally achieved full independence in 1968.
Economy
The national airline, Swiftair, uses modern, safe, and fast high-tech airships filled with helium, an inert gas that will not ignite. It is 100% safe for airship travel. Swiftair's fleet of five zeppelins operates regularly within Occussi-Ambeno and also runs less frequent international links. Airships are ideally suited to delivering mail, passengers, and supplies to isolated outposts, where the ships can hover to transfer cargo.
