The state of North Dracul is an administrative region of the Commonwealth of Dracul located in the northernmost part of the country. The state is the largest in the nation in both size, population and, cultural influence with notable landmarks including the "Unity Fountain"; a large man-made lake in the center of the state and for Fort Howie; the state's capital and an active military base for the Draculian Army. The state is further divided into the county of Transylvania. North Dracul was the Commonwealth's first state and as such, held the unique privilege of hosting the nation's capital until July of 2020 when Dracul's capital (known as Bran House) left the state and became a federal district.

History

On February 1, 2018, the State of North Dracul was created to allow the Citizens of Dracul to create their own legislation and state programs.

Proposed Name Change

In the midst of North Dracul preparing to establish their first governor, the State proposed a name change to better connect itself with Vlad III. North Dracul sent out an email to all North Dracul Citizens on October 29, 2018, alerting them of the voting and providing the ballot. The choices reportedly on the ballot were North Dracul, Transylvania, and Wallachia. Voting ended on November 2, at 2:00am central, to allow North Dracul international Citizens to vote as well. The new name was scheduled to be announced at 10:00am central, on the same day. After four days of voting in North Dracul, for the possibility of a name change, voting ended Friday morning at 2:00am cdt. Upon review of all the results, it was discovered that were were only a total of six citizens who voted in the poll. Furthermore, it was reported that all options were tied at two. North Dracul had two votes, Wallachia had two votes, and Transylvania had two votes. Due to the lack of citizens voting in this poll, the Draculian Government went to the micronational community, asking the community to help break the tie. A poll was presented on the Facebook "Micronations" group, asking the community to choose an option. Voting for this tie breaker ended that Friday evening at 11:00pm cdt.

First Governor

Dracul's first midterm elections were scheduled for January 7, 2019, which included the race for the first State Governors. With two states already established, the Federal Government needed leaders to manage both states. On the evening of January 7, 2019, results came in, showing Eric Harvey Williams, Jr. won 66.68% of the vote against Paul Frye. Williams was then sworn in on January 25, 2019, at the Bran House in North Dracul. The following May, the Governor was joined by Charles Ross who became the state's first Lt. Governor in early 2020. However, in late 2020 a disagreement between the two eventually led to Ross resigning and being replaced by Luke Gauthier.

Government

Officially, the state functions on a two-branch system with a strong executive body and an equally powerful legislature (made up of a lower house of assembly). However in practice, the executive branch wields a majority of the power in the state. Individually, this power is typically handled by the Governor who is the final say on most of North Dracul's affairs and from who's executive orders, most of North Dracul's legislation has been turned into law.
