The National Assembly of Matuco is the unicameral legislature of the Principality of Matuco. Members are elected by party list proportional representation. Members hold their seats for 6 months, or until the chamber is dissolved by the Monarch.
Role and Duties
The primary role and duties of the national assembly include:
- Voting on Proposed Legislation
- Bringing Votes of Confidence Against the Government
- Scrutinising the Government
- Providing Government
- Advising the Monarch
Leadership
The national assembly is presided over by the Speaker of the National Assembly, sometimes known as the assembly speaker. The assembly speaker is appointed by the Monarch on the nomination of the assembly.
The speaker has the ability to preside over sittings of the chamber, call members to speak as well as suspend members from the assembly.
Election
Members are elected by party list proportional representation. All members are known as Members of the Assembly and are granted the post-nominal of MA while in office.
Qualifications
To be eligible to stand for election, certain qualifications are required to be met:
- Hold Matucan Citizenship for At Least Two Weeks
- Be 17.5 Years of Age
- Be Mentally Sound
- Be a Party Member
Privileges
The primary privilege granted to the national assembly is absolute freedom of speech. All members are free to say what they wish in sittings of the national assembly. Another significant privilege of assembly members is judicial immunity except in cases of treason or bribery.
