The Midnorthean Socialist Federation, more commonly known as Midnorth, is a micronation located just outside the Midnorth Region. Midnorth is currently landlocked within South Australia

Etymology

The name of Midnorth has an interesting backstory. Originally called Grabenstadt, it was more of a location for trade agreements than a formal name. To simplify its identity, Grabenstadt decided to rename itself Midnorth. During a political coup, Midnorth briefly adopted the title "The Reformed Socialist Republic of Midnorth" for about three weeks before returning to its original name. Then, on September 18, 2023, a significant change occurred when the President of Midnorth declared himself king and renamed it "The Kingdom of Midnorth." Later, after a coup attempt, the name was changed once again to the Midnorthean Socialist Federation.

History

The Republic of Midnorth, founded under President Daniel's leadership within the Micronational Community, initially enjoyed a period of relative peace. However, the rise of neighboring micronations close to Midnorthean land soon altered its course.

One of these nations, the Godless Anarchic State, swiftly annexed Midnorthean territory due to a misunderstanding. In response, the Grabenstadt Armed Forces mobilized and began recruiting, quickly assembling a modest force of four soldiers to counter the Godless incursion.

In the ensuing confrontation, Midnorthean soldiers demonstrated superior technology and strategy, securing an overwhelming victory against the Godless forces. Following this defeat, the Godless retreated, marking the beginning of a cold war between Midnorth and the Godless.

In the aftermath, President Daniel launched diplomatic efforts to secure alliances and treaties, strengthening Midnorth's security. However, tensions escalated when the Godless trespassed on Midnorthean territory on May 13th, igniting the First Midnorth-Godless War. Although records of the conflict are limited, internal strife grew within Midnorth.

A citizen rose through the ranks and led a coup against President Daniel, forcing his abdication. The nation was rebranded as the Reformed Socialist Republic of Midnorth, establishing a diarchy with Daniel and a counterpart. However, internal power struggles soon ensued, leading to a triarchy and Daniel’s eventual exile.

This turbulent period, known as the Dark Age, marked the collapse of the Midnorthean Republic, as external pressures and internal discord destabilized the government. Abandoned and divided by rival micronations, Midnorth fell into chaos.

After a prolonged period of inactivity, former President Daniel reclaimed authority, declaring himself king to restore stability to Midnorth. Under King Daniel I's leadership, significant investments were made in the armed forces, enhancing their capabilities and readiness. A Privy Council was also established to assist with governance and management, signaling a new era for the Kingdom of Midnorth.

In time, King Daniel I issued his first royal decrees to improve the Midnorthean economy. These reforms, which included taxing all tangible goods except food and medicine, proved crucial for Midnorthean success. After a series of complex events with other micronations, a group called ELM lost nearly all its members, who went on to form an organization called ILM. Midnorth joined ILM the day after its creation. However, the kingdom soon faced challenges, including a coup attempt by some privy councilors (the Tri-archy). In the aftermath of this coup attempt, King Daniel abdicated.

Upon his abdication, King Daniel granted power to a Provisional Authority composed of his former Privy Council. This council initially sought to revive the Tri-archy, a shared form of government. However, an effort backed by the former king, who was promised a position in the cabinet and influence through his political party, instead led to the establishment of a Revolutionary Republic. This new government abandoned the idea of a Tri-archy in favor of a new form of socialist state, distinct from the king's previous, failed attempts. The former Privy Council members who had worked with the king on the Tri-archy soon withdrew, criticizing the newly founded Socialist Republic and establishing their own states.

Politics and government

Government of the Midnorthean Socialist Federation

The Midnorthean Socialist Federation operates as a Revolutionary Republic, centered around the Chairman of the Midnorthean Socialist Party (MSP). The Chairman currently holds emergency powers to stabilize the nation.

Government Structure: Local Level

Each region has its own elections for regional political parties, which must be approved by the Chairman. When a party wins an election in a region, it may occupy one position in the national government (e.g., Head of State, Ambassador, Finance Minister) if permitted by the newly elected Chairman. However, the winning party gains exclusive rights to govern its region, as long as it adheres to central government regulations. To ensure fairness, these regional elections are held every three months.

Only government-approved parties may run for election at the regional or national level.

Government Structure: National Level

The composition of each Chairman's Cabinet may vary, as the Chairman can occupy any unassigned government position. Unlike other positions, the Chairman is not chosen by regular citizens but by party leaders. Every member of the party, whether in government or not, votes for their preferred candidate for Chairman.

National and local elections for representatives, party representatives, and Cabinet members must be completed before the Chairman is selected from among the elected officials. A single official, if they receive enough support or are the only member of their party, can hold multiple roles, just as the Chairman can. Chairman elections, like local elections, are held every three months, with the Chairman selected afterward.

The Cabinet

To maintain stability and to implement changes, the provisional government must remain in place for three months before any new elections. During this period, reforms to the system and adjustments to previous laws can be made. The current Cabinet is led by the newly appointed Chairman, Daniel, the former King of Midnorth.
