The Lord Chancellor of Wellmoore, formally the Lord High Chancellor of Wellmoore is the highest-ranking Great Officer of State in Wellmoore, nominally outranking the Prime Minister of Wellmoore. The Lord Chancellor is appointed by the Sovereign on the advice of the Prime Minister.

The Lord Chancellor is a member of the Cabinet and, by law, is responsible for the efficient functioning and independence of the courts, in accordance with the Wellmoorean Ministry of Justice.

The Lord Chancellor is a senior member of the Privy Council and a member of the Cabinet. The officeholder always acts as an advisor to the Monarch.

Precedence and Privilege

The Lord High Chancellor outranks all other Great Officers of State with the exception of the Lord High Steward. However the role of Lord High Steward is rarely held.

It may also be seen as Treason to commit crimes against the Lord Chancellor.
