The Republic of Leonia, more commonly known as Leonia, was a non-territorial italophone micronation. It was founded on the 5th April 2016 from Davide Leone (today known as Carlo Cesare Orlando), and became one of the most important micronations in Italy. After its death it gave birth to the so-called leonensian micronations (Castaboro, Repubblica Federale Leonense, Aragonia)
Leonia had many interaction with Freeland, which was so influenced buy the micronation, that for a long time it became a province of Leonia. The relationship with Freeland brought to the leonensian community many new citizens like Gianmarco Rubino, whose role is still important now in Castaboro. The importance of Leonia lies also in the political debate which will give birth - after its dissolution - to the aragoneese and the freelandeese community. Theese communities will play a veri important role in the future leonensian micronations.
Etymology
The name Leonia comes from the surname of the founder - Davide Leone. Surely at the beginning it was a goliardic and temporary name, which ended up being the official name. Today many words used to describe italophone community on Telegram like Leonidia and leonensian come from that word.
