The Latin Thulian Alphabet (Kańóásna Ńotkósna Akwaéeńeń, pronounced: [ˈkanoasna ˈnɔtkɔsna ˈakvaeːnɛn], also known as the LTA), is the form of the Latin alphabet that is the most used way of writing Thulian. It contains 25 letters; 13 vowels (a á à æ e é ê o ó ò io y ý), 11 consonants and 1 digraph (io).
Letters
The alphabet contains 25 uppercase and lowercase letters:
Majuscule forms (also called uppercase or capital letters)
A | Á | À | Æ | B | E | É | Ê | K | M | N | Ń | O | Ó | Ò | Ø | Io | R | Ŕ | S | T | W | X | Y | Ý |
Minuscule forms (also called lowercase or small letters)
a | á | à | æ | b | e | é | ê | k | m | n | ń | o | ó | ò | ø | io | r | ŕ | s | t | w | x | y | ý |
The Latin Thulian Alphabet omits 4 letters (c, q, w, z) from the ISO Basic Latin alphabet. In case of these letters being used in Thulian, they get replaced with ⟨k⟩ or ⟨s⟩, ⟨k⟩, ⟨v⟩ and ⟨s⟩ before translation. Because these letters get replaced by others, they sound like the letter they get replaced by.
Digraph
The diagraph ⟨io⟩ is considered to be a single character:
- If the ⟨io⟩ in the beginning of a word is capitalized, only the first letter of the two in the digraph is be capitalized: Iomøòkóêń ("Impossible"), not IOmøòkóêń. Uppercase is only used when the whole word is capitalized: IOMØÒKÓÊŃ.
- If the ⟨io⟩ is in written vertically (such as on hanging signs) it should be written horizontally, as a unit. For instance, if the word snioka ("school") is on such sign, the ⟨io⟩ appears on the third row.
- If the ⟨io⟩ was in a word that had spaces between the letters (such as on signs) the digraph would be written as a unit. Example: S N IO K A.
