The Kingdom of St.Charlie (Italian: Regno di St.Charlie) was a state established the 25th of December 2000 by Patrizio I; it existed until the 15th of November 2008 when the King abdicated due to health conditions and an economic crisis. It was replaced a week after by the Federal Republic of St.Charlie.
Background
The area sorrounding St.Charlie has been always field used for crops until the late 1970s, when the field was divided in several pieces of around 20000m² and sold to the public. The territory where St.Charlie was formed was bought in 1982 by Patrizio Ruvolo, an Italian architect who subitely asked for permission to build his house there. The permission by the city of Rome was given him only sixteen years after, in 1998. In September 2000, only the house was finish, as works for the development of the garden continued until end 2001. In late September, Patrizio and his family moved to his new domicile.
Coronation
Taken as a joke, Patrizio I made himself King of St.Charlie the day of Christmas 2000 and declared that his house shall now be called Regno di St.Charlie. The name came not only by the fact that their dog was named Charlie, but also because it was dedicated to San Carlo Borromeo, Italian cardinal who made significant reforms in the Catholic Church of the 16th century.
View of Micronationalism
Patrizio I has never taken micronationalism seriously. In fact, the Kingdom of St.Charlie was never judged as a micronation who seceded from Italy. However, there were a few things that made that house outside Rome like a real territorial micronation.
For example, various things such as the absence of a currency and a real St.Charlian citizenship but the presence of a national drink, make the Kingdom look like a humorous micronation. It was later said by Patrizio I that St.Charlie was created as a Christmas joke, and wasn't developed because he didn't even know about micronations in general. He only liked the fact that he declared himself Absolute Monarch of his own house. The flag and the motto of the nation were also designed just for vanity.
In the Dan's System of Classification, it was a 6th World micronation, while in the Tallini system it was a 7th World micronation.
