The Katzen Army, officially the Army of the Lands of the Grand Katzen Crown of Vienna and Germany, is the ground defense unit of the Kingdom of Katzburg. The army, along with the Navy, make up the overall strategic defense force of the Kingdom. The Army, like the navy, is under the supreme command of the Marshal-Admiral, who has the rank Colonel and Chief of Staff within the army, as Marshal-Admiral is a ceremonial title. It currently comprises of only a single Royal Guard Regiment and supply guards, but can be expanded during conflict.
The Army's Guard Regiments are currently garrisoned near the Royal Palace in New Berlin, with the Army Staff also headquartered there.
Units
- 1st Chasseurs (Royal Guard)
- 1st Supply Guards (Royal Guard)
The two Royal Guard units are the only two permanent formations in the Katzen Army, and usually guard the Royal Palace, but also form the elite units of the army in the case of war. The Supply Guard Regiment also controls a small cannon that can be used during war. In the case of war, new Regiments can be conscripted if the need arises.
Army General Staff
Currently, due to its small peacetime strength, the army has an uncomplicated staff structure, consisting only of a Chief of Staff, who is also the commander of the Army, Charles Schwarzenberg. During war, however, each line Regiment will have a logistics, communications, and intelligence officer, each with the title Staff-Lieutenant. They are directly responsible to the chief of staff.
Katzen-American War
On August 23, 2022, Chief of Staff Schwarzenberg, Marshal-Admiral and Colonel of the Guard, issued orders for the Guard to be readied and deployed on the Kingdom's western frontier on the 25th. On the morning 24th, orders were issued for the next day for an immediate westward advance to seize a key road and walkway lying just yards west of New Berlin. On the evening of the 24th, more specific orders were issued. After a bombardment from a small cannon to soften up the position, the Katzen army was to launch a steamroller frontal assault, rapidly seizing the road and sidewalk before they could be saved. The operation was to take place in the morning, but due to a delay in preparing the cannon, it was postponed till the evening. However, that evening, bands of enemy troops were spotted nearby to the east by Schwarzenberg, causing the operation to be called off and postponed to the 26th. The enemy forces entered the outer reaches of Katzen territory, and the Guard was sent to stop them. The 1st Chasseurs advanced steadily, and the enemy forces promptly fled. With the eastern flank secure, the advance was now planned for the 30th. Katzen and allied gunners opened up a deafening bombardment of rockets and flares against the American line, causing the guards there to retreat. The, the infantry pushed forwards. They met determined resistance at first, but soon, allied Carthaginian infantry and cavalry was threatening the American flank, causing the Americans to turn and run. Karno-Carthaginian infantry then sent out pillaging parties to pillage the region, before annexing it.
