Titles, Honors and Arms
Peerage
Following his wedding, John was granted an earldom and introduced to the House of Lords as the Earl of Southavon on 28 February 2006. The awarding of the earldom was in line with the practice of granting titles upon marriage into the royal family. Southavon was appointed Admiral of the Exonian Merchant Navy of Southavon; as part of this role, he assisted in organizing the roles and helping merchant companies to perform their duties worldwide.
He made his maiden speech in the House of Lords in April 2005 on the problems that members of the navy suffered in everyday life, especially the lacking of one. One of his last contributions to the Lords was in response to the Prince James Act of 2022, stating he was proud of his son becoming the next king of Exeter.
On 2 November 2008, Lord Southavon was created Viscount Ashcot. This was a peerage given to him so that his son could have his own personal style before becoming a prince.
