The Holy War, also known as the Sopian-Saulish/Saulian War (Sopian Guerjxa Santa, Gerjxa ante Tiñana ei Saulia, Spanish Guerra Santa, Guerra entre Tiñana y Saulia) was a conflict between the Kingdom of Sopia and rebel forces from Saulia and later also from Nave, which happened in the founding of the Sopia. The war is known is Sopism as the First War for the Defense of the Soup.

Background

The Order of the Holy Soup had recently chosed who would become King Mario I of Sopia as their high master. This angered some of the most conservative members of the Order, since everyone knew that Mario's plans for the order were to establish a secular micronation, instead of a theocracy. The ultra-conservative faction (of 4 people) went to an abandoned industrial building located in the south of the country, in Northern Spain this kind of buildings are known as Nave, to plan a response, on the same day, Mario declared the Kingdom of Sopia and he himself as secular king, upon knowing the news, the ultra-conservative faction declared the independence of the Republic of Nave, led by their leader Nicolái Parleç, who was named "Sovereign Lord". The king didn't declare war and instead focused on peacefully fixing the issue. The 10 of July, Saul, taking advantage of this situation, declared himself "Lord of the Saulian Clans" and sent a message to Sopia and Nave declaring his intention to destroy the Holy Soup (which he had already tried before). Upon this threat to the Holy Soup, Nave and Sopia banded together and waged war against Saul, protecting the Soup from being spilled in the Battle of Nave.

Development

Assault on the Soup

At first, the threat was not taken seriously by Sopia, but on the same day, Saul's army arrived at Nave, where the Soup was guarded, and tried to break into the main building in order to spill the Soup. Having saw Saul's army marching beforehand, Sopia sent the Holy Order to defend the Soup with Nave. The battle ended in Sopist victory, although a costly one, since two soldiers were injured (not seriously injured). This battle is remembered as a national holyday in Sopia, and used frecuently in religious and nationalist narrative.

Sopian counter-attack

The National Guard was conducting its first training in a field just outside of Saul's house, so after the Battle of Nave, they attacked Saul's House, they engaged with the retreating Saulish army in Saul's yard, in the Battle of Cebolín. After being defeated, the Saulish army fled to the main base of Saulia, where Saul was hiding, an Horreo known as "La Ferneza". The Assault on Ferneza, ended with Sopian victory, and Saul was forced to retreat to his own house, with only his dog and his sister still defending him.

Sopian betrayal

Although the king wanted to remain peaceful with Nave, the commander in-chief of the Holy Army, Nicolái Rodrieç, taking advantage of the position of the Holy Army near Nave's capital, declared war and attacked the capital, Nave surrendered just one day after and accepted annexation into Sopia.

Last Saulish stand

The final battle was the Assault on Saul's home, known as the Battle of Cat House, since there are many cats in the area. The entire Sopian army, Holy Army and National Guard were there. (Although not the king). After the battle ended with Sopian victory, Saul and his sister were captured and sentenced for high treason and war-mongering to "tree-hanging" (not deadly) and banned forever from Sopism and Sopian citizenship.
