History of Curnon

The Oligarch State of Curnon was founded on 31 December 2022 as an anarchist nation known as Flag Mania by Asa Ward. At the same time, it declared its independence from the United States. It was later reformed to become the now known Curnon, becoming an oligarchy before this in February 2023. Following its delegation's attendance of MicroCon 2023, Curnon became dedicated to diplomatic relations and developing itself as a more formal nation.

First Era

Curnon's first era is defined by some as being the first 5 years since it was founded. This is the era that Curnon is currently considered to be in, spanning from December 2022 and expected to end in December 2027.

Flag Mania

On 31 December 2022, the Oligarch State of Curnon was founded and declared independence from the United States as Flag Mania by Asa Ward, inspired by a YouTube video about the Republic of Molossia. The nation's government was later formed in January 2023, alongside the creation of national symbols such as the nation's flag and motto. Flag Mania also gained its first citizens, expanded its territorial claims and formed a national bank. The national bank and currency were later scrapped, reportedly as a result of low-usage. February 2023 saw Flag Mania became a Dual-Dictatorship. when German Rugama joined Asa Ward as a co-leader. A military was also formed, as part of the leader's attempts to expand the nation and become more stable as a nation. The military was later disbanded in June 2023 and re-established between July 2023 and October 2023.

Flag Mania had its first physical interaction with another micronation in February 2023 when a micronational terrorist group named Soopta arose and declared war. The government responded through the blacklisting of the nation's citizens from receiving citizenship, also refusing to recognise Soopta's war declaration. On 23 March 2023, a verbal and physical altercation between the leaders of Soopta and Curnon took place. the Main Leader's of both nations we're lightly injured, and both recovered within a day.

National reforms

Flag Mania became known as Curnon in March 2023 after the nation's current name and flag were adopted by the leaders, although the motto was not officially changed until May 2023. The nation's change in name has been interpreted by some as a turning point in the nation's history, as it works to become more serious as a nation and how the leadership had become critical of how the nation is perceived by outsiders. The Curno government created its own emergency alarm sound around the same time, also forming the Curno National Library immediately following Asa Ward's discovery of 2 boxes full of books. The Curno government kickstarted its own economy in May 2023 as it began the trade of soda to individuals in the United States. this was used as a method of making money for 3 weeks. knife-throwing was adopted as a national sport around this time.

MicroCon 2023 and expansion of relations

A Curnon delegation attended MicroCon 2023 at Joliet. As a result of the event, Curnon began diplomatic ties with some attending nations including the Republic of Dostykstan, a now close ally, with Asa Ward and the Dostykstani leader Daniel R. Gomez meeting for the first time. Gomez later became one of the nation's co-leaders.

Curnon became more invested in diplomacy, having formed relations with multiple nations including the Principality of Sancratosia, State of Hokoria and the Kingdom of Pontunia. Curnon also became a member state of the Global Oceanic Cooperation Organisation in October 2023.

Constitution and government reforms

In December 2023, Asa Ward announced a first draft of Curnon's constitution, alongside reforms of the government. This saw the foundation of a Senate and a Grand Cabinet. Around this time, the Curnon National Library was reported to have acquired 9 new books to its collection. Latin also became an official language, alongside English, with Curno-Gaelic being adopted in January 2024.
