The Herbert Territory or Territory of Herbert is a territory of the State of Avon, located in the US state of Oregon. It was created following an Avonite expedition to the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Oregon, and is composed of a large sand dune. It was officially founded on 20 May 2024. It possesses no permanent population. It is the third largest Avonite territorial holding in terms of area, after the Rowena Protected Area and the Borough of San Juan.
Etymology
The territory is named for Frank Herbert, the American author of the popular Dune book series, which was partially inspired by the sand dunes located along the Oregon coast.
History
In late April of 2024, the dune that makes up the entirety of the territory was scouted and explored on foot by an Avonite expedition to the coast. The dune is quite large and thus could not be entirely and properly surveyed, however. The next month, Chairman Asher Young announced the creation of the territory in an official government announcement.
Political structure
As a territory, Herbert is not fully incorporated within the State of Avon as a borough, and is classified officially as a Special Zone. it possesses no political autonomy from the Avonite state, and is ruled over by the Chairman of the State of Avon.
