Infobox country is the official template to use for articles pertaining to micronations. Nation is deprecated and not to be used.

Infobox country should be placed at the very top of of articles, above all other text, and below cleanup and notice templates such as simulationist, copyedit, WIP, or disputed, if any exist on the page. No matter the final length of the infobox, they should be kept within their article; do not make separate templates with a pre-filled Infobox country for transclusion in an article, as transclusion for such templates comes with increased server load as well as difficulty navigating to the template for other editors.

Infobox country should not contain icons in text fields, either as small images or others such as flag, flagicon, flagicon image and similar, and should not contain unnecessary boldface or italics, although certain exceptions apply to text formatting when it comes to clarifying information. No uniform standard exists to handle every type of exception for clarifying or providing additional information, but some of the more common norms are as follows, keep in mind that almost all clarifying phrases must be strictly lowercase except for proper nouns. Longer clarifying notes are to be added using efn. For specifying de jure or de facto where needed: (de jure) or (de facto)

Do not add former names, flags, anthems, mottos, or years active to the infobox if the nation is not defunct.

Translations should only be listed for the name, motto, and anthem, by alphabetical order of the language name in English. All other fields should use an anglicized equivalent of the native name of the entry.

For lists of two items, use line breaks: <br /> For lists of three or more, use plainlist.

Parameters marked with Redirect should preferably be linked to their separate article.

Name

name

Usage of |name = is reserved for articles pertaining geopolitical organizations. For the parameter to use with micronations, see the entry below. Using this parameter will not display the name in bold, and as such, the text to show should be fed enclosed by three appostrophes.

|name = United Nations ☒N
|name = United Nations checkY
conventional_long_name

This is the parameter to use for articles pertaining to nations rather than organizations, and must be the full, official name of the nation in English only, for example, instead of "Norway," this field would contain "Kingdom of Norway." This parameter takes precedence over name.

native_name

This parameter is for the nation's long name in its native official language(s). Most commonly, it is used with the native name template to automatically add a link to the language after the translation, if multiple, separated by line breaks, and if very long, compressed with small and nowrap where needed. Refer to the native name's own documentation for more information. For translations in micronational languages, follow the format of Translation (Examplian). Do not italicize non-Latin characters.

Flag and other national symbols

image_flag

Provide the filename and extension only, for example, Flag of the United States.svg. Do not include advanced image formatting such as [[File: or other parameters such as |120px| or |border| as it interferes with the template's built-in formatting procedures.

|image_flag = ☒N
|image_flag = Flag of the United States.svg checkY
image_coat (as well as image_emblem and image_symbol)

Similar to image_flag, provide only the filename and extension without any other parameters. To adjust the size of the symbol, see the symbol_width and map_width entries in this list.

|image_flag = Greater coat of arms of the United States.svg checkY
symbol_width and map_width

These parameters adjust the height of images in the infobox to the number given, although this does not need to be included with a properly cropped image of a national emblem, however, it is mandatory for maps, which should always be 250 pixels wide in Infobox country. Do not include px after the number.

|symbol_width = 60px ☒N
|symbol width = 60 checkY
|map_width = 250 checkY
motto

National motto in official languages, surrounded by double quotation marks if in a language that Latin letters. If multiple translations, use plainlist. Even if English is an official language of the nation, list the English translation in |englishmotto. Do not specify the language unless multiple translations of the motto are present in languages that use the Latin alphabet, in which case, specify the language only for those that use it.

|motto =
englishmotto

Only use for an english translation of the motto if |motto = is used for translations. Do not specify that it is in English.

|englishmotto = "This motto is an example"
anthem Redirect

The work's name, in the nation's official languages, and surrounded by double quotation marks if in a language using the Latin alphabet. If an external link to a YouTube video or other video hosting site, only the first entry needs to be linked. If a file exists, add directly between the name and file. Sound files should not contain the |thumb| or size parameters.

|anthem = "Farewell of Slavianka</div>

Capital city

capital Redirect

A field only for the capital city or region. For cities, do not specify the administrative region in which it is located. Some micronations have different de jure and de facto capitals or separate legislative and executive capitals. In such situations, it becomes necessary to specify following the format below:

|capital = Examplestan (de jure) <br /> (de facto) or |capital = Examplestan (de jure) <br /> (de facto)
largest_city Redirect

If the largest city or region (either by area or population) is also the only capital listed, simply write capital. You can choose to specify either one or two cities or regions as the largest. If you specify two, indicate which is largest by size and which is largest by population. |largest_city = Examplegrad (by area) <br /> Exampleville (by population)

Languages

official_languages
sovereignty_type

In most cases, simply write Independence with no extra text.

sovereignty_note

Specify either the macronation or the micronation from which independence was declared and link to it.

|sovereignty_note = from France
|sovereignty_note = from the United Kingdom

Hatnotes

Hatnotes are small messages that appear at the top of an article or section and are often used to direct the reader to associated articles or ones with a similar title, as well as other uses of a term. Hatnotes always go at the top of an article or section, any above any infoboxes.

Main

Main is used to direct a reader to a more in-depth article from within a section.

Main article title
See also

See also is used to direct a reader to an article related to the topic discussed in a section rather than an in-depth article about the topic. The See also template is to be used exclusively in sections. General links related to the article as a whole should go in a ==See also== section at the bottom of a page.

Related article title
About

About is used to direct a reader to similarly named articles that they may have been looking for instead. This template has many parameters; refer to its documentation page for a detailed guide on how to use them. If some fields are left blank, it will default to a message similar to one rendered by Other uses or For by providing a link to a disambiguation page of the article's title.

Other uses

Other uses provides a hatnote with a link to a disambiguation page for the term in the article's title. It should not to be used on articles with unambiguous titles or to link to pages that are not disambiguations.

other uses on target page or Term (disambiguation) on other pages
For

For is used as a customizable variant of Other uses with many parameters. Refer to its documentation for more information.

For multi

For multi is an advanced hatnote template that combines the functionality of About and For without the about clause at the start. Refer to its documentation for more information.

Redirect

Redirect should be used on pages where a search term redirects to that article by default, and provides a link to other uses or a disambiguation page. This is especially useful for a short name link to an active nation instead of a disambiguation page if articles of similarly-named defunct nations exist.
