Graustark National Alert System
The Graustark National Alert System (GNAS) is the national emergency alert system of the Principality of Graustark. Said system exists to inform citizens of impending threats to state security/severe weather/Important news announcements. The GNAS was instituted in late 2019 under the orders of Prince Charles of Graustark after seeing that the country was facing the threat of possible war.
Weather Alerts
Although primarily intended to warn of an oncoming attack, the GNAS is most often deployed as a weather announcement system. This is mostly during the summer when severe heat-waves bring temperatures to dangerous degrees.
The system is also used during the winter when large haboobs and severe monsoon storms are more common (often accumulating quickly and with very little notice).
Imminent Threats
The secondary use of the GNAS system is to broadcast alerts regarding immediate threats to Graustark's national security. An example of this would be a notification about a deceleration of war or a news bulletin about the death of the monarch.
Means of Broadcasting
Alerts are most commonly announced through state media (most commonly YouTube and the national website). Another way (that is used almost exclusively during a state of emergency) is through the use of alert sirens/speakers located throughout the nation in various major cities. The ladder option is purely conceptual though as no such sirens exist yet. However, plans are currently underway to have a functioning siren system by mid-2020.
Criticism
The system has received mild criticism from the public (mainly for the siren system) as many see the project as "unnecessary" and "a waste of public money". Though the government has stated that it understands the concerns and recognizes the potential problems, they have remained steadfast in their decision to create the GNAS and have stated that while the new system might cause some troubles in the short-term, it will pay off greatly in the long-run.
