The Grand Council is the national legislature anticipated by the 2017 Constitution of the Commonwealth of Deseret, to consist when organized of fifty delegates elected by the citizens of the commonwealth. While the formation of such a body, patterned after Joseph Smith's Council of Fifty, has been anticipated since May 2016, it will not begin functioning "until at least twenty-six delegates have been elected and sworn-in." "After it has been organized, the Grand Council of the Commonwealth of Deseret shall assemble as often as needful to discuss, draft, and ratify laws, subject to the moderation of its chairman, the General President."
