The Governor-General of the Azorean Commonwealth is the vice-regal representative of the Government of New Melanesia.
The governor-general is appointed by the President of New Melanesia on the recommendation of the National Assembly of the Commonwealth. The functions of the governor-general include appointing ministers, judges, and ambassadors; giving presidential assent to legislation passed by parliament; and issuing writs for election.
Appointment
The governor-general is formally appointed by the President of New Melanesia. When a new governor-general is to be appointed, the National Assembly recommends a name to the president, who by convention accepts that recommendation. At the installation ceremony, the new governor-general takes an Oath of Allegiance and Office.
The oath for the due execution of the office of governor-general is: "I, (name), do swear that I will well and truly serve the President of New Melanesia in the office of Governor-General. So help me God."
