The Folks State of Gasconade is a micronation in the Missouri Ozarks. It does not claim to be an independent macronation, rather subscribing to the Parallel plane theory. It is the successor to the Meanwealth of Gasconade, being established on 4 October 2022, 2 years and a week after its predecessor declared independence.
Etymology
The name Gasconade came from the nearby Gasconade River, its tributaries, and watershed. The Folks State was originally completely within the Gasconade watershed, but has since expanded outwards.
History
The Folks State of Gasconade was founded on 4 October 2022, a week after the second anniversary of its predecessors independence. Folkalder Joshua Stoddard organized a cabinet, began domestic reform, and held informal talks with Ausveria, its predecessors ally.
On 11 November 2022, Gasconade annexed the Ausverian Reichskommissariat of New Rhineland as a district, under direct control of the Cabinet. This came after relations with the Ausverian government soured, after which on 26 November the Folks State announced it was recognizing National Ausveria as the legitimate government of Ausveria.
By the beginning of 2023, Gasconade was almost completely offline, and citizenship was limited only to those who lived on its territories. After interest in the project dwindled, Folkalder Joshua Stoddard abolished the state and government of Gasconade sometime in May 2023.
Government
The government of Gasconade is a de facto dictatorship, with the Folkalder, Joshua Stoddard, wielding all power within the state.
Administrative divisons
Gasconade has two levels of administrative divisions, Counties, and Districts. Counties, like Holbeck, which holds the headborough of Spurhoff, existed mostly to conduct the business of the national government, census taking, tax collection, resource allocation, etc. Districts were controlled by the central government itself, given no autonomy.
Culture
The culture of Gasconade is heavily rooted in Old Stock American culture, with significant Deutschamerikaner influence. Its citizenry speak a blend of Southern and Midwestern American accents, with some German, and Scots loanwords.
Foreign affairs
The Folks State has no foreign affairs to speak of. It's foreign policy has been described as isolationist, however it did entertain relations with other micronations early on. It does not have any formal relations with other micronations.
