The national flag of Varania is a tricolour featuring three vertical bands coloured blue on the hoist side, white, and green. The design was adopted after the proclamation of the Varanian Republic; it is based on the French and Italian tricolours, symbols of their own national revolutions, which Varania's revolutionaries sought to emulate the characteristics and virtues of. The tricolour is a perversion of the Varanian flag used during the monarchy, defaced of its eagle and rotated in its colour bands, which to its designers symbolised a new and more liberal era for the nation, while also maintaining historic Varanian identity and symbolism.
