The Excelsior-Granolan war was a conflict and war between the United Federation of the Terra Excelsior Republic and the Granola Republic that occurred from December 2021 to January 2022. The war was one of the few Excelsioran wars that had physical combat.
Buildup and war declaration
Granola was a breakoff state from Excelsior that seceded in December 2021. The Excelsioran government chose not to declare war and the secession was peaceful, however tension ran high between Granola and excelsior. Many nonmainstream Excelsioran politicians held dual citizenship in Granola and public Excelsioran opinion towards granola was often poor. On December 16, 2021, both Jasper S., the former Chief Justice of the Excelsioran Supreme Court, and President Dylan Y. of Granola, representing the Granolan government, demanded to become Excelsioran Supreme Court Justices, or Granola would declare war on Excelsior. Jasper, as a former Justice, had been fighting with the government for months over the recent Supreme Court election he lost, where he alleged voter fraud and said he had been "betrayed" after vopting yes on the motion to make Justices elected. As Justices of the Supreme Court are elected in Excelsior, it would be undemocratic to grant them the position, so the Excelsioran government refused Granola's demands. On December 17, 2021, Granola declared war on Excelsior.
Excelsioran response and evacuation
Excelsior responded shortly by sending forces to the Granolan Discord server to make announcement to Excelsioran dual citizens residing in granola. An evacuation of Excelsioran citizens began, and an order was signed making it illegal to hold Granolan citizenship or face charges of treason. Granola was completely evacuated of Excelsiorans after 24 hours, and a declaration of war from Excelsioran President Silas Wurnbash soon followed. Chancellor Nicolas Caiazzo, usually opposed to wars, supported the Excelsioran response, saying it was justified as Excelsior was not the aggressor, and led the evacuation operation.
Battle of Park Slope
On December 19, a granola force led by Henry, a supporter of Granola, attacked the Fortress of Invictus, capital of the Excelsioran state of Invictus. The resulting Battle of Park Slope was hard fought by both sides but ended in a complete victory for the Excelsiorans, as they had numbers on their side. A couple Invictisian soldiers of the invictisian 1st company as well as the majority of the strength of the goose island scratch company held rank at the Fortress of Invictus facing repeated Wild Granolan charges made at the defense line. After a few hours of battle, Excelsior was declared victorious. For his bravery in battle, President Silas's High Order of the Chancellor was upgraded to the High Order of the Chancellor with distinction. As the battle lasted over 3 hours with repeated attacks, Excelsioran morale was low, and multiple soldiers attempted to desert. Yet Excelsioran forces still held rank and ultimately defeated the Granolan Army. This battle secured the Fortress of Invictus from the Granolans, which was important for the Excelsioran Military because it was the gateway to attack other population centers in Excelsior.
Peace talks and surrender
On December 5, 2022, Dylan of Granola proposed a surrender and peace plan to end the war, as at this point Granola was losing the war politically as well as having lost the Battle of Park Slope. Dylan stated as follows: "We would like to make peace with Excelsior, and we will cede our territory if it becomes part of [the State of Dave] and that all Granolans can [become naturalized] Excelsioran citizens." President Silas declined this offer, yet Granola still surrendered.
Treaty of Alis city
After Granola surrendered, the Treaty of Alis City was signed, outlining the conditions of peace and surrender and the reparations Granola would pay to Excelsior. It stated that all Granolans would become citizens of Excelsior, and Granola would become a subjugated territory of Excelsior. The treaty took effect in January 2022.
