The Empire of Prospellas (EOP), formerly known as the Empire of Aglezia and later the Empire of Aglesia, and more commonly known as Prospellas, is a micronation located in Central Arkansas. Its claims are completely surrounded by the United States. It retains a small population of 5 known individuals, all of whom are dual citizens of Prospellas and New Pulaskia. The amount of administrative divisions, as well as the names and locations of said divisions, are currently unknown.
Like its Pulaskian and New Italian neighbors, Prospellas was, before its creation, inhabited mainly by the Quapaw and Caddo peoples. It was incorporated into the French Empire and handed to the United States after the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, and was slowly settled. Prospellas’ founding date is unknown, though it is known that it was founded likely sometime in April or May of 2022 as the Empire of Aglezia, though it is claimed that the nation existed prior to this. The nation may have broken away from the United States after seeing the success of Pulaskia (in a similar fashion to Xaidia around the same time). The current Emperor of Prospellas is Gavin M, with his presumed successor being Supreme Torturer Sophia B. The Minister of War of Aglesia is Jude A, and the Treasurer and Head of Economic Affairs is Ayden T. Prospellas is currently in an unsigned alliance with New Pulaskia, and recognizes the neighboring nation of New Italia.
Etymology
The name Prospellas came from the merging of two words: The word for prosperity in Latin, prosperitas, and the name Hellas, which refers to Greece. Prospellas was envisioned as a culturally Greco-Roman empire, which explains the name, which was changed from Aglesia in the late summer of 2024 to be less fantasy-like. It is unknown where exactly the old name of Aglesia came from. It is known that the spelling changed from Aglezia to Aglesia. The Aglesian spelling of Aglesia was Äglęßįæś.
History
Pre-Empire
The Empire of Aglesia was founded on land previously inhabited by Quapaw and Caddo natives. European settlers established themselves along Hurricane Creek in the early 19th century. A skirmish at Hurricane Creek occurred during the American Civil War. Rail service in the 1870s brought development. The town was hard hit by economic struggles in the early 20th century and through the Great Depression, and World War II era saw development as demand for the area's bauxite grew. From records, Aglesia has claimed that there was a previous government similar to that of Pulaskia, though much more corrupt, though little information exists beyond the fact that they were overthrown by the Aglesian Imperialists. Claims also exist of an earlier founding date of Aglesia that was prior to 2022, though no records of this exist and it is regarded as hearsay.
Early Days
Aglesia is known to have been founded in April or May of 2022, with very murky details around this time regarding the country. Its founding was possibly inspired by New Pulaskia’s successful growth, and either strengthened by or helped to strengthen the foundation and growth of Xaidia. It is known that the Aglezians suggested an early alliance of New Pulaskia and Xaidia, later known as the Triple Alliance, though the exact document mentioning this alliance is undated and has, sadly, been lost. This is the earliest known document of Aglesia’s existence. It is also known that Aglesia was joined by Kahlan H and Ayden T early on, with Kahlan becoming Supreme Torturer and both acquiring dual citizenship between Aglesia and New Pulaskia.
New Growth
By late 2022, Aglesia was entering a revival phase along with Pulaskia, going through much growth during this time. The earliest surviving mention of Aglesia comes from this time. On September 2, 2022, Aglesian Emperor Gavin McManigal gifted to the Pulaskian National Military and Science Administration (NMSA) several small, shining stones they called Celestite. It is unlikely that these stones were actually Celestite, appearing more black in color and shining pink and green. The Pulaskian Times, which published the day after, records that the stones were stolen while being transported by the President of Pulaskia to the NMSA’s Head, Joseph C. Only a few photos remained of the stones. The Times also claimed that the stones had been called by the name of “carbonite”, a fictional metal. This was the last mention of Aglesia or her Emperor for some time, and Aglesia was not rocked by the chaos and tensions gripping Pulaskia during October. The nation was slightly affected by the Pulaskian Government Exclusion Act, which sealed Emperor Gavin M out of the Pulaskian Government, but the effects were only slight. Gavin would also apparently accuse Kahlan of conspiring around this time, as emails from early October tell us. The next mention of Aglesia, the first mentioning Aglesia as an empire, was sent by Gavin regarding the Xaidian-Pulaskian Union, stating that he’d be in attendance of the unification ceremony that was planned, but not executed. The same day, Gavin would send a message to the Xaidian and Pulaskian Presidents, inviting them to a United Micronations event on October 17, and promising the signing of an official alliance treaty. Little did either President know, it would change everything.
Aglesian-Pulaskian Tensions
The first sign of something wrong came when Emperor McManigal denied Kahlan H and Joseph C the right to attend the conference, stating that they were not at the top of any command chain of any country. Little debate ensued, but it foreshadowed what was to come. Talks began on October 17 with discussion of the alliance and non-aggression pact, but quickly spiraled out of control when Gavin M began to speak of a plot by Kahlan H and himself to assassinate the two Presidents and absorb their countries. The plan failed and both leaders escaped, with Ayden T attempting to rally Pulaskians to defend their nation, but that day it would be revealed that Kahlan was not involved in the plan, and supposedly bribed Gavin, though this was likely used as a cover to allow Gavin to escape most of the scrutiny. Ayden would state that he completely trusted Kahlan H, and said that Gavin M’s “use of the term ‘asset’ instead of ‘ally’” worried him, and that he would be being guarded. Four days after this, on the 21, Gavin would claim that he had been in “hibernation for 2 weeks” and that a “Greay” had taken his place during that time, as well as that he had no knowledge of any threats or possible wars, but this was not seen as a reason for the incident. Tensions mounted quickly, as the Pulaskian military mobilized and prepared for war, instituting a military recruitment plan, but war did not occur. The Pulaskian Times and Xaidian Atlas recorded this, and was also the first official mention of the Aglesian storage of mythical creatures, which included “dragons, unicorns, and alicorns”. This likely died down overall, as the next record of Aglesia comes from about a week later, when it was made known that Gavin would call off attacks on Xaidia, which had apparently begun in the wake of the conference, with some sort of war or conflict occurring (though no other record of these attacks exist). However, Joseph C told Ayden T that Gavin was planning to assassinate Xaidian President Rebecca D by poisoning her, though the plan failed. On Halloween Day came the next mention of Gavin, and, by extension, Aglesia, when Gavin and Joseph planned to have a duel for the title of Central Arkansas Supreme Micronational Dueler. Whether or not this occurred is unknown, though no eyewitness accounts exist of this event if it did. During early November, when both Presidents fell ill with strep throat, Kahlan Higgins took emergency power for both Xaidia and Pulaskia. It was recorded that further ties had been established between Pulaskia and Aglesia, with an agreement to stop attempting to arrest Gavin and for non-aggression between the two nations. The agreement did not extend to Xaidia, though, and it was stated that Xaidia would take priority in the case of an offensive war against them, with a statement that unicorns were exchanged as well. President Ayden T of Pulaskia also continued to work at an alliance treaty to formalize the Triple Alliance between Aglesia, Pulaskia and Xaidia, soon after sending it to the leaders of Aglesia and Xaidia for the first time. Soon after, the Defense Crisis (formerly known as the Pulaskian Civil War) began, which Gavin, and by extension, Aglesia, was pulled into, siding with Brayden A’s supposed secession. After the short-lived period of chaos, Gavin came under scrutiny for its events, however, Brayden Armstrong, at the time the Pulaskian Minister of War, was accused of ordering an assault on Gavin M, which turned accusations towards Brayden. These claims were never verified nor proved false.
New Dawn
Though things were dying down, tensions were still present, exemplified when, in mid-November, the “Aglesian Oracle”, Gavin, predicted that “a man of small stature” would “terrorize” the nations, as stated in the following “prophecy”: “Civilization shall burn. A man of small stature arises. The world at large he terrorizes. His so called friends fall one by one. First the governors, Then civilians. Only one way to stop his rampage, to end his tyranny. Destroy His Flag.” Though Gavin stated repeatedly that it was Ayden, Ayden himself thought it could actually be referring to Joseph Crumpler, then Pulaskian Treasurer, as he had “terrorized” people before. The whole thing, however, never truly came to pass. Despite all the tensions, Aglesia remained a Pulaskian ally in the eyes of President Ayden T and Emperor Gavin M. Tensions would settle in the months before The Fall (also known as the Email Crisis). Gavin would state that Ayden should hold a competition to change the Pulaskian flag, though this request went mostly ignored. Aglesia would also publish its first and only newspaper, the long-dormant Aglesian Graicai (also spelled Gracai), published in the language of Arganstan. The language is not known to those outside Aglesia, and the document is undeciphered, besides a short sentence in English telling readers that no one was being fearmongered by Gavin in Aglesia and to “not believe the lies of the captives”. Pulaskian officials would also at this time make a statement that they would do everything in their power to make Aglesia a democratic nation, and as December neared a close, Gavin M would agree to cease referring to Pulaskia as an “asset” to Aglesia. As the new year began and micronationalists returned in January, Ayden Tucker, Pulaskian President, would send a non-aggression treaty to the leaders of Aglesia and Xaidia to create an alliance, for a second time. Gavin McManigal declared that he would sign it if Ayden would, quote, “get out of his hair”, (though it was never signed before Pulaskian unification with Xaidia) and that Kahlan Higgins was in charge of the nation of Aglesia as Princess Regent. The Pulaskians anticipated that Kahlan would begin changing Aglesia, though not much was done during her relatively brief time as Princess Regent. Moving into the Pulaskian Era of Opression, Aglesia was affected in a similar way to its neighbors. The assigned seating debacle tore the nation, recess separation by gender hurt Aglesia, and tensions were reignited when the Pulaskian Council discussed the Aglesian attempts to assassinate and attack leaders and the implications of the Pulaskian-Xaidia Alliance treaty. The Pulaskians stated that any attempted kidnappings would result in either an attack on Aglesia or the jailing of the Emperor. Eventually, a court date was decided on (though it never came to pass), and a prolonged investigation into previous actions taken by Gavin that had endangered Pulaskia began. The Aglesians, quite oblivious to these events, were anticipating an attack and/or war, though tensions did die down a bit following this, despite a suggestion by Gavin in late March that Aglesia may be planning an attack against Pulaskia, though he claimed he was not threatening war around a week later. In April, Aglesia saw its first new growth in quite some time when Grace Hartsell joined the nation, who was declared Gavin’s successor. Shortly after she joined, she, along with Houston Richardson, current Pulaskian Head of NMSA, began to be tutored by Ayden Tucker on the politics and history of Aglesia and Pulaskia, an action which was approved by Gavin. In late April, following the creation of the new Republic of Kalossia, the Pulaskian government would propose a plan involving Aglesia either being invaded and Gavin arrested or taken down from inside with the help of Princess Grace H, along with another plan proposed by Rebecca D to never sign any alliance treaty with Aglesia, though it was stated that these would only be enacted if Aglesia attacked or made moves against the new nation of Kalossia. Emperor Gavin M would later state he intended to “peacefully annex” the nation, while President Brayden A of Kalossia said that it was troubling and that Aglesia was unlikely to annex anything peacefully.
Tensions Return
Following the Email Crisis (The Fall), information became scarce. Few mentions of Aglesia came after this point, though claims existed that a rebellion had shaken Aglesia, attempting to overthrow the nation and its emperor. In February of 2024, when Emperor Gavin M would receive a one-week ban from Country Talk (a Google Doc used by regional micronations for communication) for tampering with the chat lines of others, and would receive a temporary status as commenter for editing lines following the end of the first ban. On March 6, Gavin M would meet with Pulaskian President Ayden T, and Presidential Advisor Kingston M, during which he would successfully push for removal of several people, almost all of them Kalossian, from Country Talk. On March 7, however, another meeting, concerning Kalossian representation, resulted in Brayden’s return, with Gavin also successfully pushing for at least 3.0 GPA grade requirements for the Doc. The same day, Alex M would be appointed to the position of Aglesian Minister of War. As Spring Break drew near, on March 15, the Pulaskian Presidential Council held a meeting, during which they denied requests by Gavin to repeal the Government Exclusion Act, which kept Gavin from holding a position in the Pulaskian government, as well as approving continued work to undermine the Aglesian Empire using its people to force change into a democracy. Emperor Gavin M would also attend the BJHS Spring Dance with other national leaders, and following Spring Break he would attempt to bring more citizens into Aglesia. As April began, on April 3 another Pulaskian Presidential Council meeting was held, this one for April, with several citizens observing, including Gavin. Pulaskia would take in Alex M, Minister of War, who was attempting to flee Aglesia, but a more momentous proposition by Kahlan Higgins declared that leaders of foreign nations could not be citizens of New Pulaskia, a furthering of the already existing Government Exclusion Act. Voting in favor of the act ended up being unanimous, and chaos erupted, with a council of ordinary Pulaskians, led by Gavin, crafted a declaration claiming that the government was controlled by Rebecca Davis and Kahlan Higgins, among other things, and that it punished the “common man” while the Council remained immune. After immense pressure from Gavin following the meeting, Ayden would veto the act the next day, returning citizenship to Gavin, though the whole thing remained in a state of limbo, with a “People’s Council” meeting planned to discuss and mediate the whole issue. This caused ripple effects across Pulaskia, with debates over the decision lasting well into August, though these were hardly felt in Aglesia, and not long after, on April 9, Gavin would appoint Brayden R to the position of Minister of Education and Punishment, a position Brayden would keep for several months, though the portion of "Punishment" was dropped in early May. As April turned to May, Gavin would manage to successfully convince Sophia B to join Aglesia, appointing her to the position of Supreme Torturer. He would also describe her suggestion of creating a new nation with Joseph C following Pulaskian elections (if things didn't turn out well) as "a tad foolish". Despite this, he would be appointed to the position of Vice President of Peace of New Libertas at the onset of the Pulaskian Civil War, with Aglesia backing the new nation. On May 4, Gavin would shift Alex M’s duties from the Ministry of War to make him Minister of Agriculture and Food Production, and would participate in the call between New Libertas leaders and Ayden T, Pulaskian President, which cemented the declaration of war that truly began the Pulaskian Civil War. On the 6th, Gavin would become the sole Vice President of New Libertas following the departure of Leo L, and scrutiny found Gavin, and, by extent, Aglesia, as a court case was planned for Gavin, alongside many others, for past crimes.
A Peaceful Horizon
As the summer of 2024 began, things settled on the micronational scene. Despite continuation of the Pulaskian Civil War, Aglesia itself saw little change over the summer. In June, things would change, with two major decisions made. First was the Pulaskian Presidential Council’s final decision to reverse the original restrictions on the citizenship of foreign leaders in Pulaskia, on June 26, which allowed Gavin M to regain his Pulaskian dual citizenship. Secondly was Gavin stating that both he, and, by extent, Aglesia, were neutral towards the Civil War, with Gavin claiming that he knew nothing of any actual war (though this is almost certainly untrue, and may have been to escape postwar scrutiny), and he would resign from his post as Vice President of New Libertas on June 28. Almost exactly a month later, on July 29, a major decision was made for Aglesia, when, with the help of a special group consisting of Gavin M, Sophia B and Ayden T, the Empire received a new name: Prospellas. Created from the Latin word for prosperity (prosperitas) and the Greek name for Greece (Hellas), the name was quickly adopted, and a new era for the nation began. Gavin gave the reason for the name change being that he wanted the nation’s name to sound less fantasy-like and more realistic, with the decision coming alongside a pledge to take in any Pulaskian refugees. In August, Gavin would join a court case against former Pulaskian Minister of Defense, Brayden A, though the case was concluded quietly out of court, due to previously alleged treatment of Gavin by Brayden, and on September 11, Gavin would appoint Jude A to the position of Prospellan Minister of War. On September 20, both Prospellas and New Pulaskia would release Brayden R, who had previously been the Prospellan Minister of Education, from citizenship upon his request, and Gavin would also facilitate the controversial renaming of the “Country Talk” Doc to “Nations Conversations” at this time, though the two are now both featured on the Doc. Gavin would also encourage more immigration to Prospellas, and, in a surprising move for the nation, voting on Prospellan policies began to take place on October 2, regarding foreign policies and government spending, with average citizens of all regional micronations able to vote on these issues. This was called an astonishing development, as Prospellas and Aglesia had never shown signs of opening doors up to democratic principles previously. Negotiations also began in early October for the creation of a regional micronational United Nations organization, though negotiations have been slow, while results of the Prospellan policy voting have not been released yet. As of now, the future seems bright for Prospellas, especially with the nation turning its head towards the possibility of democracy.
Politics and Government
The nation of Prospellas is an imperial dictatorship. It is ruled by Emperor Gavin McManigal, with his unofficial heir being Supreme Torturer Sophia B. Jude A is Minister of War, and Ayden Tucker is the Head of Economics and the Treasury. Prospellas has no known official legislative body, and of course does not host elections or political parties.
Emperor (Imperial Ruler)
The postion of Emperor (also known as Imperial Ruler and previously as Imperial Dictator) is a hereditary position, unless otherwise declared. The Emperor has total power over Prospellas, and is essentially all powerful. He appoints other government officers, and is considered a god by the Prospellan people. The current Emperor is Gavin M, and his unofficial heir is Sophia B, Supreme Torturer (formerly his heir was Princess Grace H).
Supreme Torturer
The Supreme Torturer is the secondary position (most likely) to the Emperor. They are in charge of torturing political prisoners and POWs, possess some of Prospellas’ magical creatures, and are incredibly important to the current Emperor. The current Supreme Torturer is Sophia B, who was preceded in the position by Kahlan H. Those who have committed high treason against the Emperor are sent to the Supreme Torturer.
Ministries
Little information besides functions are available on most Prospellan ministries, due to little will to disclose names of Ministers for security reasons.
Ministry of Economics and Treasury
The Ministry of Economics/Treasury manages the money of Prospellas They are the third most powerful person in the Empire. The current Minister of Economics and Treasury is Ayden T (needs to be checked)
Ministry of Agriculture and Food Production
The Ministry of Agriculture manages Prospellas’ livestock and crop production. Since the Prospellans claim a population of Genetically Modified Humans (GMHs), they do not need to consume plants to survive, and can sustain themselves through the livestock of Prospellas. Most plants grown are exported, and this Ministry manages food stores and production.
Ministry of Education
The Ministry of Education handles Prospellas’ education courses. Prospellas reportedly has some of the greatest education systems in the world, however, since most of it is taught in Greek, Prospellas has a 1% acceptance rate into these courses. The Ministry of Education also included a brief foray into Punishment, renamed to the Ministry of Education and Punishment. The position of Minister of Education is currently unoccupied, though the last Minister of Education was Brayden R.
Ministry of War
The Ministry of War handles war and defense-related items in Prospellas. Though the nation has been involved in many wars, the Ministry of War is a recent formation. The current Minister of War is Jude A.
Law and Order
Prospellas does not have a known police force or court system, and it is believed that much of the law is presided over by the Supreme Torturer. Some Prospellan laws include: no committing of arson and no committing high treason against the emperor. Depending on the seriousness of the crime, some may be sent to the Supreme Torturer to be tortured to near death. An Prospellan rebel group whose name is unknown has previously reportedly caused unrest in the capital of Prospellas, Mcmanapolis, and it is believed the city’s name may have caused this. A secondary rebel group, HERA, has also been reported causing much unrest and chaos within Aglesia, with Gavin McManigal reporting that “unspeakable crimes” were committed.
Military
The Aglesian Armed Forces contain only one known branch, the Aglesian Army. It does not have any currently known personell, and may be simply ceremonial. It is overseen by the Minister of War, Jude A.
Foreign Relations
Currently, Aglesia recognizes the nations of Pulaskia and New Italia, and formerly recognized the nations of Xaidia (pre-Union), Kalossia (reintegrated into New Pulaskia), and the rebel province of Josentia (reabsorbed into Pulaskia). It has made an unsigned alliance with Pulaskia and previously has made an unsigned alliance with both Xaidia and New Pulaskia, known as the Triple Alliance. Currently, policy voting is in progress regarding foreign relations with New Italia and New Pulaskia.
Administrative Regions
Little is known of the administrative regions of Aglesia. It is known that there is a language called Arganstan, implying that there may be a region by the same name which would be where it came from.
Geography and Climate
Aglesia’s geography is much better known as of now. It has been recorded that Aglesia’s territory sits around 300 nautical miles south of New Pulaskia, placing it in the Gulf of Mexico just off the coast of Louisiana. Aglesia’s climate is likely similar to that of Louisiana, but specifics are unknown. Aglesia holds territory in Arkansas, where it hosts diplomatic summits and conducts most operations out of.
Economy
Aglesia’s economic state is relatively unknown, though it is likely not very good, as most people in the nation are poor (excepting the Emperor, his government, and a few wealthy residents). There are no known imports, though the nation is known to occasionally export some of its stock of magical creatures and also exports produced crops. Aglesia uses, in addition to the US Dollar and Pulaskian Dollar (in trade) the Aglesian Doubloon as currency. Photographs of this currency are unavailable. Currently, policy voting is in progress regarding funding of education and food.
Culture
Aglesia likely celebrates many holidays, as well as an Independence Day, though the dates of local celebrations are unknown. Aglesia reportedly has some of the greatest education systems in the world, however, since most of it is taught in Greek, Aglesia has a 1% acceptance rate into these courses. The poor peasants do most of the work within Aglesia, with the rich mainly focused on making more money. Apparently, there are higher acceptance rates in schooling for the poor. The “Great Tree” of Aglesia, a massive tree dominating one side of the Aglesian home island, is also known to enlighten and make smarter those near it. There are five known languages spoken in Aglesia, Arganstan, Aglesian, Latin, Greek, and English. The first and only edition of the Aglesian Gracai was written in Arganstan, but has not been deciphered. It is likely that any media was/is state controlled, including the aforementioned Aglesian Gracai, which told readers to “not believe the lies of the captives” and that the Emperor did not fearmonger his citizens.
