The 8th Elysiumite senatorial election occurred on May 15, 2020, exactly three months after the last election. The last election resulting in a NEP majority and Sir Spooky being made Majority Leader.
This was the first election to occur after the dissolution of the Elysium Verdant Party, the previous opposition. Former Opposition Leader Xavier Jackson then joined the New Elysium Party shortly after. A new opposition party led by Senator Johann Kümmel then rose up, and with it a handful of Senators joined before the election. The new Democratic Socialist Party was, despite its name, a big tent party with a conservative wing.
