The Edristanian Mark is the currency of the People's Republic of Edristan and was introduced on the 13th April 2021.

Value and Usage

Value

The 5 Mark Note of the first series of Mark Banknotes. Unlike the other notes at the time, it had a security hologram (Not seen in this picture)

The Edristanian Mark is tied to the Euro at the rate of 1€ = 2,50 Marks, orientating on the rate of the German Mark. Unlike the Shilling, it is not expected to experience any value fluctuations.

Usage

The Mark is more widely used and requested than the Edrian Mats and the Edristanian Shilling, with more convenient denominations and simpler, but safer designs. On the 5th September 2021, new Banknotes of 50 Pfennigs, 1 and 5 Marks were introduced, with a 20 Mark Note announced but not yet released. It has also been announced that the 2 Mark Note will most likely be discontinued due to its low usage. Instead of plain Guilloche Patterns, the Banknotes now feature well known political activists, politicians and philosophers.

It is estimated that about 200 Marks are in circulation in total, while the Central Bank holds thousands of Marks according to a statement of the Head of the Central Bank.

Security

All of the Notes have:

  • Individual Signatures by the President
  • A date stamped on it
  • A printed on security threat made of silver ink
  • Guilloche Patterns
  • A serial number

Both Versions of the 5 Mark Note and the existing 10 Mark Notes also feature a security hologram. The 20 Mark Notes do as well, with the 50 Mark Note surprisingly not doing so, instead being made out of cotton paper with a security thread and UV markings.

The currently existing denominations notes are:

  • 25 Pfennigs (0,10€)
  • 50 Pfennigs (0,20€) (Featuring Ernst Thälmann)
  • 1 Mark (Old Version Barely in Circulation) (0,40€) (Featuring Rosa Luxemburg)
  • The One Mark Note. It features the german communist politician Rosa Luxemburg (1871-1919)
    2 Marks (0,80€) (Discontinued)
  • 5 Marks (2€) (Featuring Karl Marx)
  • 10 Marks (4€) (Featuring Clara Zetkin[1])
  • 20 Marks (8€) (Featuring Karl Liebknecht [2])
  • 50 Marks (20€) (Featuring Friedrich Engels [3])

Printing Issues

The most widely used Banknote of Edristan before the introdution of the latest banknote series, the Two-Mark Note.

Due to a file being accidentally deleted, the Central Bank has had large problems with printing 1 Mark Notes up until the introduction of the new Banknotes on September 5th. Now, the new 1 Mark Notes is one of the most common Notes in circulation.
